COMMENTARY: Aggies meet expectations in loss to Buckeyes (8:45 ...

Full story: Las Cruces Sun-News

Really. What did you expect? Was it for the New Mexico State Aggies to be competitive against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday? On the road? In The Horseshoe? Did you anticipate them scoring an offensive touchdown? Or kicking a field goal? Or getting three first downs? Were you bracing yourself for a Herculean effort from the defense, as it ...

Actually it wasn't a bad day for the Aggies as one of the talking heads on ESPN said at least they will be going home with a big check now they won't need to beg the public for food.

Big Sky Teddy, talk to the man a move to the Big Sky Conference solves all the problems.

It could be worse, the Aggies could stink up the state the way the UNM Lobos have done this year. Thank heavens there is a worse team in the state.

What is sad is there is no semblance of an Aggie offense against a so-so OSU team, as evidenced by two scoreless quarters for OSU. Yes, I know the Ohio first team wasn't in the game in the fourth quarter and the OSU QB left at the half. Even so, OSU should have put another 21 points on the Aggies and they weren't able to. The fans in Columbus should be sweating that fact.

I'm not saying there was a chance the Aggies would win, but they should have been able to score something on the their opposition.

Did you notice that the Ohio State coach had to run trick plays to give the Buckeyes some breathing room? With the kind of talent OSU supposedly has, they should have been able to run the ball down the Aggies' collective throats for 60 minutes. That didn't happen. That says a little about the Aggie defense in the first quarter and the OSU offense in the last quarter.

Still, 63 yards of total offense by the sorry Aggies?! Who showed up to play? The Aggie football team from the class of 1960? Great Gobs of goose crap! At least get a stinking fieldgoal.......I am embarassed that this team is representing the state of NM. How does it feel Aggies to have your manhood taken away from you? Basically they bent over and took in the tail pipe. Ha ha ha ha.....

What gems from TeddY,NMSU is now a"team in transition" rather than "an improving team",exactly what are they transitioning to if you aren't deeming them improving any longer?Might you report on ANY prospective recruits who have ANY star rating linked to them by recruiting services to give rise to your unfettered optimism.Didn't think so.Sooner or later TeddY,you're going to revert to actual sports reporting since you're running out of NMSU Administration/Alumni endearing terms.

They (Ohio State) got the win, and the Aggies got the money.

To get out of there with no major injuries is definitely a plus. I'm sure that the Aggie team, to a man, would not have wanted to be anywhere else than on the field against a team like tOSU. The offense will come, but right now the personnel don't match the scheme. No one likes to lose, however no one predicted a win either.

The way this article of commentary was written
is rather mean spirited and unnecessary.

Feel like a big man?

There are no surprises in this years football team.
Disappointing, yes.

But they are college kids playing football, making
money for the university they play for.

Not getting paid. Thank God.

This city has always had a talent for being
fair weather fans when the going is great.

They will abandon the cause if it's not a winning
season. Pick a sport or activity. It applys.

I will continue to support our Aggies.

Mean mouthing this team will accomplish nothing.

They will get better. It will happen.

The football team is just one big toilet bowl that NMSU's money gets flushed down. Don't dignify that program by claiming that they make money for the university.

Interesting, the last few years the problem was too much offense and not enough defense. Now, its a good defense and not enough offense. Maybe we should have given Mumme one more year after all. I mean all the players currently playing are his recruits and Walker's offense is as exciting as watching paint dry. Who cares if Mumme didn't like the media or attending events, at least we weren't falling asleep while watching the Aggie offense during their first drive.

Do you really believe that. But if you do, they get every thing free.Thats why the college is broke. Nice cars.

The reason the college (university) is broke is the same the other institutions of high learning in NM. It has nothing to do with athletics. It has everything to do with low oil and gas revenues, low sales tax revenues, and the general condition of the economy.

Athletics at NMSU and UNM are but a small part of the whole, or hole, in this case. BTW, do you know who the highest paid state employees are? The football and basketball coach for UNM.

maybe wearing pink should be the standard uniform for the aggies cause ohio state smacked them around like a cheating wife...what an embarrasment to las cruces. The city should have sent Mayfield to play i bet they would have scored a field goal. I bet that good ol Dwayne is better at drinking and driving than coaching football.

You're just Brilliant! Do you not understand that NMSU makes money just for having the 3 little letters WAC pasted on their uniforms? You obviously don't. You're probably in the same group of people that think NMSU would be better off in 1-AA or Div. III, or without a program at all. FACT IS; NMSU Football brings in "some" money, besides basketball, it's the only sport that pays for itself, or at least comes close. When Boise State goes to another BCS game this year, and NMSU gets it's share of the WAC profits hopefully you won't be b!tching then. this football team could go 0-12 every season, but at least they are still one of 117 DIVISION 1-A College Football programs that gets some notoriety, some tv time, and some money!!!!

I have to disagree. The embarrassment is to Ohio State. To play the team that is last in Division I in offense, that has a new head coach and completely new defense and offense schemes with players who learned the previous coach's systems, you have to expect the team won't do well in the first year. To not score any points in two quarters against the Aggies really says more about Ohio State than it does about the Aggies.

OSU is going to get their heads handed to them in the upcoming week.

If you look at OSU season as a whole you will see that they never run up the score against anybody. Their second string could have also scored anytime they wanted to. I belive they were just trying to give their backup field goal kicker practice.

What an embarrsing defeat and only 60+ yard of total
offense in 4 quarters of play.
NMSU maybe 2 more wins - but when they get blown away
again in possibly 2-3 of the remaining games it will be
hilarious to see the excuses for all of this.
Clearly the offense bites, the Defense tries but is still
inept and special teams forget it - and of course the
coaching staff is too blame for their lack of game planning execution.

559 yards to 62 yards and most of the starters played only in the first half, how is that embarrasing?

And the reason for the back-up kicker was due to a cheap shot by an NMSU player on a kick-off, the starting kicker is out for the year: http://blog.dispatch.com/buckeyesblog/2009/11... . If this was a conference game the NMSU player would be suspended.

That is soooo dumb, you don't know of what you speak .

If you know a big person who can explain what the various athletic conferences
are comprised of and what is expected of them, please listen carefully.

This isn't professional wrestling or a television reality show. This is a difficult and tough season for this and other teams re-building their program, not magic.

Part and parcel of this lot is going up against a scheduled team and knowing
you will be publicly thrashed is sometimes part of the messy game.

The Aggies will eventually turn their position on the food chain.

The will be consumers rather than contents of the bait bucket.

How will the Aggies turn their position around when it has repeatedly been demonstrated that they CANNOT recruit?

If something is weighing on your mind it will start to affect your health, Virgo. It might make you feel tired or depressed, or it could dominate your thoughts. You know what you should do about it, of course, but it seems like too much effort or you want to pretend that it doesn't exist. Unfortunately, this escapist attitude won't make the problem go away and might even make it more tricky by the time you finally decide to tackle it.
