Classic!! Just another example of the non-students (and potentially non-decent-citizens) the U brings in to the basketball program. Win at all costs, Tubby! Yes we can!

Stop recruiting shiit to the U. And to the state of MN for that matter. Try higher standards for athletes you recruit. It's a whole package...not just athletic ability, but how about personal integrity, responsibility, a little slice of humble pie. Stop the madness.

"Win at all costs, Tubby! Yes we can!" - how wrong can one comment be? Tubby chooses to suspend players for an infraction that only he probably knows about - showing that he does not subscribe to the win at all costs mentality. Further, his reputation is not win-at-all-costs. As for the "Yes we can" comment, you do realize that Tubby is not President Obama, I presume? I guess because they are the same color, we should attribute the catch phrase to each of them. Absurd.

Hate to say I told you so but I did. When you recruit marginal students who have careers speckled with problems you buy a package of problems. Looks like Tubby is doing the correct thing....hope it works but frankly I will be most surprised if either of these players and a couple of other recruits ever graduate. Hope they make the NBA otherwise it's a life of "I used to be" for a bunch of talented but undisciplined young men.

I agree with your comments....wish the Universities could truly do the right thing and recruit student/atheletes. But we all know that dollars get in the way. That's another way of saying TV and ESPN who continue to glorify kids who can run fast, bounce a ball, throw a ball or tackle someone rather than to focus on what's really important. The Ivy League and DIII have the right idea...but they become obscured in the rush to fame.

Kudos to coach Smith for not putting up with those athletes, no matter how talented, that think they're above the rules.

All the negativity from previous posters is hilarious. Nobody knows what they did, and people are assuming they did something illegal or "thuggish". I love how people just make that leap because they are basketball players so they must be troublesome. I bet these two young men got into a fight with each other or another co-ed, but I'm sure in the ten years since I was at the U, things probably haven't changed too much and skirmishes between co-ed are still commonplace. I remember a fight at Sally's on Wed. night between some hockey players and a couple of wrestlers and I sure people weren't saying that we need to keep this trash out of state. I wonder why..........

Thank you. I was about to post about the same thing. It also could be an issue with grades or class attendance. I suspect most of the posters are not fans of the U or any of its athletic programs. No matter what the cause of the suspensions, Tubby has once again shown his character and how his program will be run, with integrity and accountability.

So sad - I doubt it was a fight. With these two and Tubby's comments, it's most likely grades. Before they were brought in to the U, Bostick, White (and Mbakwe) all had pasts that raised issues. We took a chance. Not working out at the moment.

How about the simple concept of Athletic Scholarships based on proven academic grades/testing. That means no one else can take the act's or sat's for you. But like voting you don't need a picture ID to take the act's or sat's. This may take a lot of thugs out of college sports.

Nice work Tubby...more than I can say for that joke Urban Meyer suspending a star player for a half, for eye gouging an opponent. I would rather the team lose playing the right way with honor and character. Than to win with bums who don't have respect and self discipline. On a side note it sounds academic related to me...

If a coach is recruiting an athlete and wants them, that coach works with administration and the kid is accepted. Simple as that. Anyone else wanting to attend the U needs, I believe, it's a 24 or higher. That is not the case with a recruited athlete. Doesn't matter what the sport, either. True!

U of M students just seem to keep finding trouble. Sounds like these two idiots are just about ready to give the NBA a try if their "abilities" call for it.
