We are so proud of Sergeant Stephen Sherman in Chicago, Illinois. One of the largest American Legion Post in our state is named in Dorie's honor - Department of Illinois Post #915. We are fighting with you Sergeant Sherman every step of the way in having the Congressional Medal of Honor bestowed upon Dorie's life posthumously. May God continue to be a guiding force in your perserverance and dedication. We love you.

I would like to thank all who have posted comments on this site. I have founded "The Doris Miller Memorial Foundation".(A non-profit organization). Our Goals and Ideals are:
To assist every homeless Veteran in and around Los Angeles, California or any city or town in the United States to secure a decent place to live and sleep with pride, honor, dignity and peace , which they deserve for their dedicated service that our country might be free. Assist and protect all disabled veterans over sixty years of age from mortgage or foreclosures that desire to live out their lives in their own homes. Assist all disabled veterans wive's or husband's that desire to care for their spouses at home after they are diagnosed with alzheimers disease. That every service man or woman receives the correct military medals he or she has earned and deserves whether dead or alive, from The Good Conduct Medal to The Medal of Honor.(Descendants can request if deceased) Build a Memorial and Museum in Waco, Texas where the old Miller home once stood at 1213 Southey Avenue. Petition the President, Congress and the Navy to waive the time limitations specified by law and award the Medal of Honor to Doris "Dorie" Miller for his actions on the USS West Virginia during the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. January 10, 2008 I was 87 years old and I still have so much to do in my lifetime. I have done most of this on a fixed income. Send all donations to The Doris Miller Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 17494, Encino, California 91416. SOME PEOPLE SPEND AN ENTIRE LIFETIME WONDERING IF THEY MADE A DIFFERENCE. THE VETERANS DON'T HAVE THAT PROBLEM. FOR THOSE WHO FOUGHT FOR IT (FREEDOM) HAS A FLAVOR THE PROTECTED WILL NEVER KNOW. SES |

From the information that i have read over the past few years and the knowledge I have of the United States Navy, the Medal of Honor is earned by performing above and beyond the call of duty in an heroic manner. Doris "Dorie" Miller did just that on that dark Sunday morning in Hawaii. If we are to truely believe that discrimination in this country is over with, we need to push for the upgrade. We just elected an african-american as our president, can we not see past the color of a mans skin and look at his brave, and heroic actions as what set him apart from everyone else. I agree theat we should all stand and salute Doris Miller for going so far above and miles beyond his call of duty. I would wager that many white men did nothing more than cry for their mommies as the Japanese attack went on. And all of this comes to you from a white, farm raised, West Virginia red-neck that grew up playing basketball at Dorie Miller Park in Lewisburg, West Virginia.

As niece of Doris Miller, and author of his biography novel, "A SILENT MEDAL OF HONOR," and the screenplay in reference to the biograpy novel, titled, "A BOY NAMED DORIS," it is as hopeful that oppositions and hostilities against the World War II hero's fame, will be overcome one great day. As expressed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., "I have A dream," it has been been as hopeful in this continued mission for justice, that the dreams will come true against all conflicts, and Doris Miller will be awarded the "Congressional Medal of Honor." It is as hopeful that his long overdue biography life story will be brought to the world's attention as well; written in accordance to Vickie Gail Miller's screenplay, titled, "A BOY NAMED DORIS." Expressed to ALL! Keep hope alive, and don't give up on the dream that all obstacles will be overcome, with awardances of justice for Doris Miller, a hero very deserving of ALL due acknowledgements, honors, and awards.
