Bob Dyer: Why play? Let us count the lessons

An English professor at the University of Akron took note of the hubbub surrounding a couple of columns I wrote about fairness in high school sports and declined to join the fray.

Dyers writes: "Unfortunately, most of the fans are far more focused on other things. And that's where sports go wrong.

Dyers should have written: "Unfortunately, most of the writers are far more focused on other things. And that's where the ABJ goes wrong."

Dyer writes: "Don't blame the game."

Dyer means: " Don't blame me and the ABJ editors. We are in it to jack up our circulation and win more Pulizer prizes. How dare you disageree with us on topix and post anonomyously.--Cheers."

and that’s why Dyer: "p&rp-walked the entire Walsh Girls soccer team by name, hometown and college selection, so to make sure the hard work of these girls, their accomplishments and those who supported them, could not experience the same joy, but only to cloud their accomplishments, by claiming they had an unfair advantage."

Nope you just have to let this anger for Dyer go. It's eating you up. Move on already.

Besides this is an excellent article and opportunity for jocks and non jocks to realize what sports is doing in our academic life cycle.

One thing is to learn how to let go over the past. Win or lose you have to prepare for the next game or next challenge in life.

Winning is in the preparation and not the actual playing. Ever here the phrase you'll play in the game like you do at practice. Sounds like something we all can get next to even not jucks.
Lifes journey does require a bit of preparation. Getting that education and college degree or profiscent in a useable talent like construction, contractor, anythi ng that requires a skill of thought or use of hand talents. You just can't take a Swiss pocket knife into a jungle and build a house.

Small steps are learned just as in sports. Being a good sport is vital. After all we all have to live in this world when the sports thingy is behind us. By taking the best from sports is the same as benchmarking. Who knows who will use the same secret play that won a game for you by using it against another team just because they saw your team do it. It's a license to steal.

Sports helps young people realize that doing their job is vital to the over all picture of anything. If I miss my block the play is a bust. If I miss a block because the coach changed the play and I missed that practice then that is a shame on me and loss of a tactic that should of worked. Gee,I wasn't prepared. And that is important in life. Be prepared.
