Akron Zips NCAA Football

Zips aim for win vs. BCS opponent

Full story: Akron Beacon Journal

All football teams in the Bowl Championship Series are not created equal. The University of Wisconsin is an example of a BCS heavyweight; Syracuse is an example of a BCS lightweight.

Syracuse may have to break a sweat (unlike Wisky) but they will dispose of the zippers easily.

This ain't the 'Cuse of old folks. No reason not to think if the Zips play well they can't leave the dome with a big win.

With the young D-Line, the zips will walk out of there empty handed. Brookhart/Chambers/Fleming are in this to win. They are only concerned about winning the Conference games. They are trying to keep their jobs. Why do you think Bain and Lively are on the line healing. They are saving them for the Ball State game - they don't want to make their injuries any worse. But rumor has it that Lively is out for at least 6 weeks and Bain is up in the air. I don't know how true that is.

It's gonna be a good game.'Cuse will have the home field advantage and definitely be fired up for the game but the Zips' will give them all they can handle. Were there any significant injuries to any Zips players this past week in Wisky?

Actually, this article is full of inaccuracies. First, Syracuse HAS played in a BCS Bowl: the 1998 Orange Bowl against Florida. Granted, it was a huge defeat, but they were there. Plus, they played in the Fiesta Bowl in 1992, and 1997, under the now-defunct Bowl Alliance. I will not bore you with their other New Year's Day games, including the 1960 Cotton Bowl to win the national title. Also, they are now just the "Orange." While I prefer "Orangemen," that is no longer the nickname. Finally, 35,000 screaming partisan fans? What, is Akron bringing busloads of fans? You might see 30,000, and they'll be rather quiet.

Way to do your homework, Skippy. Or should I say, Zippy?

Does the 1999 Orange bowl count? Pretty sure that was a BCS Bowl and Syracuse was in it.

Say, one of my trusty informants just told me there's a construction strike taking place this morning at the InfoCision stadium site. Said they're picketing in front of a huge inflatable rat.

Progress has been fast & furious to date. Guess they shouldn't unplug the Rubble Bowl quite yet.

Daily Horoscope for December 3

Aries

It's difficult to know whether you're being realistic or gloomy today, especially when thinking about matters dear to your heart. For instance, you might be concerned about the welfare of a relative and wonder whether you're making mountains out of molehills. Do your best to remain cheerful and positive, not bogged down in nameless fears.
