Yes, enjoy a "sport" where man can kill with no limit. What a great thrill. Natural means = starvation.

Bambi-burgers with the works for the homeless men, moms & kids. That should keep Grump's landscape intact, too. A true win-win-win situation. Only thing better is if the sharpshooters could practice on hood-rats. Amen. We read all the time about shelters running low on supplies. The State should ask for volunteer hunters to hunt deer for donation to shelters and soup kitchens. I think that if I were needing that charity, I'd appreciate the fresh meat. And you're right...you can do so much with venison. In fact, I just had venison meatloaf a few nights ago...and was very impressed. Hunting animals and eating the meat is natural...it's not about power or being bloodthirsty if the kill is eaten. I'm sure all of you whining about killing these creatures are vegetarians too, right? Or is it OK to kill animals who were bred and raised for slaughter?

Hunting is the only "sport" where the opponent doesn't know he's playing.
I'm all for thinning the herd, reducing the population, preventing car accidents, providing food to those in need, yadda yadda. And I'm all for hunter's rights and everyone's right to bear arms. BUT c'mon, all you hunters out there have to admit that the number one reason you hunt is the for thrill and adrenaline rush you get when you get that 12 point buck in your cross hairs, squeeze the trigger and see it hit the ground! Anyone who says they only hunt for food or to control the deer population is full of sh!t.

However, I don't hunt for trophies. I hunt for meat and I eat what I kill. I know of only a few hunters that hunt solely for big bucks, and every one of them uses the meat from their deer, no matter what. True hunters find it criminal to waste an animal by not making use of the meat. Anyone who will kill an animal simply for antlers or horns, and who wastes the meat, is not a hunter, he's a poacher.

I have a freezer full of deer meat from this past season and do you know what that means? That means that I have cheaply come by 150 pounds of delicious organic meat, sans hormones, antibiotics, and steroids. I don't get you anti-hunters, if you don't like hunting then don't participate and shut up with the criticism of those that do. Furtermore, if you are an anti-hunter and you aren't vegan, you have NO business lecturing anyone about "murdering" animals for that would be hyprocisy!

I know quite a few guys who go out into the woods and shoot the first deer they get a clear shot at, because they're not looking for a 12-point or a trophy, they're looking to provide food for their families. Coming from a former steel town where a lot of people are getting laid off....it's all about the food for some. Take my word for it.

what's next?
I think we should outlaw tofu. The tofu demand from vegetarians is causing farmers to pick soybeans thus taking away a vital food source from the deer.
of course maybe we can round up all the deer and farm them like cattle.
but then we'll hear 'free the deer' then the next step would be free the cows and chickens.

COME ON! Anyone who hunts for "Food" is either living in the woods and homeless, or loves to kill for the pleasure of it. With thousands of supermarkets around the country, one doesn't need to hunt to eat. Admit it: you guys just love to maim and kill. Be it a solider from another land, or whatnot. One more reason to understand that man has not progressed from the cave he crawled out from. Sad

Thomas, You clearly have a distorted view of reality. I've never hunted in my life, but I'm smart enough to realize it isn't the evil carnage festival you describe.
Hunters hunt for the love of tradition, nature, family ... you will find very few hunters who hunt because they love to kill things.
Hunting is one of the most natural and basic instincts in nature. Every animal that eats meat hunts. Humans have hunted for thousands, possibly millions of years. It's in our nature and it's not a bad thing as long as the animal is eating and used for clothing, etc.
Since when is it wrong to kill an animal for food? It's a beautiful thing and part of nature.

Open up the Cuyahga National Park to the bow hunters.
Why have the state pay to kill deer when the public can enjoy the land and help the tax payer.
PS have no problems adding the gun hunters also

One more reason to understand that man has not progressed from the cave he crawled out from. Sad Depending on whose figures you use, there are at least 38 to 45 million hunters and fishers in the U.S. They are among the most prominent and influential of all demographic groups. Their total economic contribution is $70 billion annually,$179 billion in ripple effect. They support more jobs than the largest Fortune 500 company, and rank as the 11th largest corporation in America. Deer hunting is not for everyone - not by a long shot. But for those who try it and like it, it is the best medicine around. Time spent hunting deer is good for learning, introspection, meeting new people, returning to our ancient hunting roots... and yes, for stocking the freezer with venison for the coming year. For me, hunting is about pitting myself against a quarry that is well-known for its elusiveness and incredibly acute senses. It is about the camaraderie I feel when camping and hunting with good friends and well-loved family members. It is about eating a deer steak and having pride in knowing that I used my skill to put that food on my table. However, Thomas, I don't expect you to understand any of that. What I do expect you to do is keep spouting off your zealous personal opinion. After all, that is what you do best.

It was a lot more economical for my dad to hunt than to buy meat at the grocery store. Deer, rabbit, squirrel....all on my plate as a child...and not because my dad was some bloodthirsty killer....because he was providing food for us the best way he knew how.

I love to hunt because it's nice to be out in the wilderness and typically with my family, there are quite a few of us so it's a good time. It's not just men, some of the wives and daughters join in and it's something that we talk about all year long. The meat is welcomed although for some of us it's not because we cannot afford beef, it's because we love to hunt. This year we've even gotten together to hunt quail, doves, and the typical rabbit and squirrels. It's fun and the kids love it. When we all get together for the holidays, the discussions always move towards what happened during this years hunting events and past years. It certaining is a big part of our life styles and we do look forward to being able to add more meat to the freezer.

This is a tough one...
I can see both sides of this. Many deer, with their range decreasing and the lack of natural predators will starve, or die of debilitating disease brought on by lack of food. They are also involved in all kinds of auto accidents each year. Not to mention Grump's expensive landscaping.
On the other hand, we have moved relentlessly into areas that they used to inhabit freely, and they are now moving back in as their numbers are increasing dramatically.
I suppose it is up to humans to manage this population as best we can via controlled hunting, which I cannot oppose.
Having said that...any of you guys I catch on my property stalking a deer is gonna have problems, my land is safe haven.
For the time being, I'll get whatever meat I need at the grocery store.
And hunters, do me one favor will ya? When you shoot one, make sure you kill it, and if you don't, track it and finish the job. Each year it seems I see one more wounded deer that some guy shot, didn't kill, and then didn't want to go after. Fair enough?
