Expand it to include thinning the politicians.

We have way too many deer in Ohio, and the land they normally inhabit is being reduced annually by more and more development. Deer have few natural predators left (coyotes, bobcats, etc.), as we have exterminated most of those over the years. Natural selection is not keeping the deer population in check, so it is time to expand hunting opportunities.

Some people just love to see animals starve to death or mutulated by tractor trailers. They like to think they understand why people enjoy to hunt. It gives them a false feeling of power because they can't control things in their own life so they try to control the actions of others.

Animals are food, it would be a terrible waste to let these animals suffer from hunger until they are torn apart by a car or truck on the highway.

Please let these poor animals be humanly harvested and used in a way that benefits not only the herd but mankind as well.

We had 11 deer in our front yard this morning heading for the highway. Is this the way Stugotts wants them to die?

Maybe it's time to reduce land development instead. We don't need another strip mall or ugly condos. The deer population is our fault and we further that sin by murdering these animals because of it.

You've got to be kidding me?!? What would make any politician in Ohio Use Common Sense?!? Why don't they blanket the skies with helicopters and use high priced sharpshooters like the dumba$$es have proposed in the past.
Of course there are too many deer, of course you should let people take more it only makes sense. My family eats every bit that they get, we've even been known to donate some when we hear about bars or other groups who want to cook game for charities or for the poor.
What a smart thing to do. This is scary!

Sorry Penny, but hunting is not murder. If you think that it is, then you are elevating animals to the same level as humans and somehow think that they have the same rights as we do. I'll let you in on a little secret -- they don't.

Within the past 100 years, wildlife populations have increased across the US. This is largely due to the fact that hunters are the greatest conservationists around. Have you ever heard of Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Pheasants Forever, Quail Unlimited, or the National Wild Turkey Federation? All of these are hunting organizations.

You want to talk about stopping development. All of the hunting organizations I just named have fought development for years. They have done it in the courts and have also done it by purchasing land so that it will never be developed and will remain wild. As a hunter, fisherman and trapper, I am proud to join this honorable community in taking credit for that.

Way to go ODNR! It's about time!

TBL:

True dat. Someone or something has to be on top of the chain. As for coyotes, though, they're everywhere around here, country and urban. I hear 'em almost daily down here at the south end of the county. Thing is, I never hear of any coyote packs chasing and killing deer. They are quite effective, though, at keeping field rodent populations in check.

Penny,
It is not a "sin" to kill animals for food. In fact, tells us to do this in the bible. It is the bleeding heart "bambi" lovers who complain about hunting. But in contrast, it is these same people that wish the hunters had gotten all of them about the time they hit one and total their car. I eat everyting I hunt and kill. And with food costs going up, I will kill a lot more.(I hope I can get in on the thinning)

Remember Penny, if deer had opposing appendages on their hands they'd try to shoot us too. We're just trying to get them before they mutitate.

Great idea. But I don't think it will work. People want to move further away from cities. They will buy a house there. So somebody will build it to satisfy that demand and make money. That cycle will not be reversed.

Calling all sickos!
Once again you, yes you, can have the chance to hunt one of Gods' most beautiful creatures for the price of a vest and a gun. Yes, feel the thrill when a harmless animal, who is feeding on land that they have a RIGHT to graze on, is covered with blood simply because the state doesn't want to thin the herds by natural means. Yes, enjoy a "sport" where man can kill with no limit. What a great thrill.

Having you talk about it gets me hot!

Besides, I never "stand over a big strong buck and watch the life ebb out of his eyes" because I am one hell of a good shot and when I pull the trigger and put my bullet through their heart, they are dead before they hit the ground.

Is that venison stew I smell? Mmmmmm.

The Haven of Rest and other shelters would be much obliged for possible ODNR donations from thinning the herd.

Bambi-burgers with the works for the homeless men, moms & kids.

That should keep Grump's landscape intact, too.

A true win-win-win situation.

Only thing better is if the sharpshooters could practice on hood-rats.
