The Over/Under on attendance at this game at RFK Stadium is 7,500 fans, yes, only seventy five hundred fans. I'll take the Under. I believe that resembles a scrub bowl. And even though this bruin fan hates USC, he/she is not impressed when Oregon beats USC? That makes a lot of sense...Nobody will be surprised if USC does not get all the recruits this year, as USC's team is young and full of returning starters, an unattractive setting for high profile high school recruits. And calling USC's QB shitty is classic coming from a UCLA fan, as UCLA's QB's have played horribly this year, even with their savior Neuheisel at the helm and Norm Chow as OC. I'll be surprised if UCLA scores more than 14 points in their bowl game.

Oregon isn't losing any of its key players ... just 4 seniors among the starters. That's right .... Blount lost his starting position to James.

Hmmm...how many USC fans in attendence? Very few. Yah and UCLA has some good red shirts too. Would this be the END of the SUC DYNASTY under Pete Carroll? Hmmm lets see will ROCKY take the fall for this teams demise. I am not a fan of the BRUINS or SUC but I can tell you this, where we live it is so nice to not have the FAT MOUTH SUC fans all over our neighborhoods. See they go into hiding as the SUC fans, they are not really fans. They only LOVE their team when they win. SUC fans have NO CLASS when they do not have respect for other teams. Like I said wait for NEXT year when SARK has his way again with SUC. Your BOWL game EMERALD (Who gives a shit about nuts) well the numbers were so low, who the hell cares. Your FAN BASE did not even watch the game. THey were busy watching the SCRUB basketball team playing in the Diamond Head Classic. Go crawl back under your ROCK! Better luck next year, but since you lost verbal commits already, lets see what kind of recruiting class you got coming in. Signing day is still more then a month away. USC does not look as attractive as it did in the past. Oregon KILLED you and YOUR dreams. Maybe PETE will end his BROMANCE with BARKLEY now.

I can see how anyone could be confused by what he wrote; I know I was at 1st. Well, strictly speaking based on the two emails, without any further knowledge of the two submitters, neither can be proved to be a bRuin fan, or a Trojan (capitalized since it refers to an inhabitant of 'Troy', as opposed to merely a name for the brown bear [Ursos arctos] used poetically or archaically for other bears, capitalized at will for team names, particularly those wishing avoid the blatant copy-catting of Cal, assuaging their tender egos by thinking the name is not as bereft of ferocity as the nickname adopted by the Chicago Cubs). OMG simply lashes out against USC, and while he/she somehow thinks that the very last bowl pick afforded to a 6 and 6 team (when a better team got a better bowl) somehow is better then the Emerald Bowl matchup of two 8 and 4 teams (perhaps since the date is later?) it also states that Washington is destined to ecclipse USC's recently blinked dominance (by virtue of the fact that they hired away key pieces of the Trojan coaching staff and recruiting team?). Therefore, Johnny, who clearly is assuming that OMG is proably a bruin fan, not a Bruin, by virtue of the fact that it's a USC hater. But nowhere does it say that Johnny walker is a Trojan or Trojan fan himself (since he didn't use bRuin), as much as an independent observer who sees a ridiculous post when he sees one. Q.E.D...maybe?

Boise State, 1st collegiate game of the season); 2) play a team in a major media market, typically a media darling (ex. U.S.C. or Michigan); or 3) get into a good bowl at the end of the season. Oregon has been good for a long while now .... 7 of the last 8 quarterbacks went on to the NFL. As for backs, it was Jonathan Stewart that put up 206 yards last Sunday against the Giants. That put him over 1,000. Over the last 15 years the Ducks have won about 70% of their games. I am not sure you are correct about SARK, perhaps because I question the validity and the wisdom of paying homage to the "blue chip" recruits from high school. The Ducks have had their share as well ... I believe last year or the year before they put the Ducks at 9th ... but they often disappoint. Of those 8 quarterbacks not one was highly recruited. What mattered more than raw talent was intelligence, character, teachability, and drive.

AGREE!

More and more kids from California are now open to going to the Pacific North West. Locker will be a great QB next year. If the SARK could convince him to stay and not go pro like he is doing, the SARK will be doing just fine next year. Did you see some of his recruits? Good kids. Now to the UCLA haters, well I think the Bruins did a mighty fine job today at the office. Always good to have a little luck on your side. They needed that win. It will for sure help their program. Also to the poster who said UCLA bowl game was a crappy bowl game. Well they played closer to New Years Day then the USC v BC game. Now the USC better watch out since the Pac 10 is getting better and better. It is no longer the USC show in LA. Glad to have the Bruins back in town. Norm Chow had two great plays today.

Real Trojans don't hate Bruins per se, it's just that the USC Haters who seem to be most vocal (and whiny) are fugly fans. That being said, in deference to friends who are Bruins, Trojans can be glad for the PAC 10, but as mentioned before, you need a reality check if you think the very last bowl slot is better then the Emerald based only on the calendar...(GMAC Bowl on 1/6...International and Papa John's on 1/2...Armed Forces on 12/31?) As for our colleagues...go Ducks, go Cardinal, go Wildcats! Too bad the beavers bit off more then they could chew...and Cal? Well, they just study in December, because they always seem to fade. As for UW, Sark has the came king of mentor magic that Chow had, so I expect them to be tough. Now, if only we can get a couple of bowls with matchups to SEC so we can quiet them up a bit.

The degree of animosity between UCLA and USC has always been amusing to most of us up here in the Northwest, though for a good while the rivalry between Oregon and Washington had a fair degree of animosity. Still dislike for the Huskies was in no small part because of the manner they carried themselves when they were hot (like USC), followed by the Neuheisel years, for which the dislike went all the way back to his Colorado years and his running up the score at the Cotton Bowl. Most people I know here are being honest when they say they root for the Oregon State EXCEPT for when they play the Ducks ... and vice versa. For a state with the smallest population in the PAC-10 it is pleasure to see two schools (UO and OSU) have successful programs. I'm a deep Duck fan, but had the Ducks lost I would have enjoyed the Rose Bowl game almost as much and rooted for Oregon State. Beyond that, I am a PAC-10 supporter and, as difficult as it sometimes is given the tiresome strutting, puffed up, obnoxious Trojan fans ... I would had been disappointed had they lost their bowl game against Boston College. Once the bowl season is over, we return to form.:-)

Good post ... thanks. It does seem that arguing about which bowl .... the Emerald or the EagleBank .... is superior to the other is borderline weird. There will be a year sometime in the future, hopefully not in my lifetime, when the Ducks and Beavers will be in those bowls or bowls like them. They are consolation, thanks- for-showing-up games whose only possible gain is mental, as in winning the last game going into spring practice. I'm not trying to stick the needle in here, but here's a question. How much did each school lose by playing in their bowl game? USC is a private school and needs only to explain to alumni and donors, but UCLA is a state school that has just increased tuition around 30%. How does one justify go to DC for a semi-bowl game?

I'm sure the trip is paid for. Don't know off hand about EagleBank, but the Emerald has been around for a while, and has the Pac 10 tie in, which Pete desribes as 'up and coming'. Otherwise, USC might have been looking at other mid level bowls elsewhere. So I don't know if that's much more of a consolation then Holiday or Sun...by the typical PAC 10 champ standards. But I think it's in a good spot (SF) to be an early play in for a playoff...that is, if it moves to Candlestick...both benches on the same sideline? That's the worst thing, almost as bad as San Jose State's sillycon valley (nee California) Bowl which died a disgraceful death back when Fresno State ruined the Bruin's .500 season. Dont' begrudge the Pac 10 tie-ins, there have been plenty of years when the Ducks would have killed for a bowl....I'm just glad we showed up to this one.
