Too bad, I was hoping Parcells would have had a chance at him so they could go after one of the young D-lineman in the draft. As boring as it is, if the Dolphins are forced to keep the #1 pick I think the safest pick is Jake Long at this point.

He would be expensive . Given that he is 32 , it could be good he was resigned . The team needs young players that will be together for years . Jake Long may be the player for the future anyway . We can only wait and see what the new management brings . Free agents and trading draft picks is not the answer anyway .

This was a good move for Dallas. He may be good for a false start every game, but he is NEVER dominated by an "elite" pass rusher.
As for the Dolphins, it looks like Bill will get his run stopping nose tackle. Reports out of Dallas have Jerry and Bill working out a deal to send DT Jason Ferguson to Miami for late round picks. The Dolphins get a solid 3-4 nose guy (although he is coming off an injury), and Dallas gets much needed cap relief.
And yes, I think the Dolphins should pick Jake Long at #1, plug him in at LT for the next decade, and do so with a big smile on their face. Don't be surprised though if Parcells trades out and back a few slots for more picks if he thinks he can get the same guy a little bit later. No one wants to pay #1 overall guaranteed money. Even if he does trade back and Jake Long falls to someone else, he could pocket the extra picks and feel just as good about taking Chris Long and standing him up at OLB in the 3-4.
