It would be hard to be a kid far away from home, and then go through all that he has. I have talked to him at several open practices and he "always" has a smile and greets each person that talks to him with the same respect. When you walk away from talking to him (you feel like a special person) he just makes you feel like he is there for you.
DJ I know you will never read this, but you are my all time favorite person and player. Thanks for making all IU fans proud! Good luck at the next level!

Yep. I am very proud of DJ. Averaging a double- double in the Big Ten is amazing. He has shown resiliency and strength. He has overcome bad situations not of his own making. The guy broke his foot twice. I am now, and will always be a fan of DJ White.

I respect Weber a little more now with his comments. To bury the grudge over Gordon and even indirectly mention the "mess" at IU as he compliments White is a compliment to him. Can't believe I am saying this.

That's funny how different people view things. I looked at Weber as not mentioning JUST Dj for the honor, but getting in his point that IU is having problems. I for one hope you are the one that is right. Any way, DJ you are a consensus for Big Ten Player of the Year. We as fans owe so much to you. Thank you for your heart, leadership, loyalty, and perseverance to carry on. GO HOOSIERS!!

DJ will go down as one of the most committed, accomplished, and loyal players in the history of IU basketball. How can anyone not like this young man? His zeal and leadership, especially this year, have endeared him to IU fans everywhere. Thank you DJ for representing IU bball at its best.

Hes a man child in the Big Ten. Really the only off game he has had was against Connecticut with all their good bigs. He has dominated every other Center in the Big Ten.

Congrats DJ!

Lets take another step at home tonight Hoosiers!!!

Just a little FYI........the Hall is going to be rocking tonight!!

I feel like with everything we have endured this year, this team has a big payoff coming in March. Nobody will be more of a close knit group than the Hoosiers.

Illinois' Bruce Weber gave an early oral commitment to voting for White.

This sentence made me laugh.

Anyway, good for DJ! He certainly has earned it.

MR WHITE and I DO mean MR., you are by far the BEST big man in the B-10 and perhaps the Country! You have shown your ability to overcome adversity and make Indiana University say you came to IU and made us better. Thank You!

Theres some really good pictures of the team just before they got on the bus to head to the Bloomington airport for Saturdays game. Go into the "multimedia/photos section and they are 7 down on the right.

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery...

There is one of DJ in there about half way through posing for a picture with a young boy before they left. The guy just lost his coach the night before, was suffering from a pretty bad case of the flu (he was apparently face down on the floor in the locker room and required an IV after the game), but still took some time to give a kid a hug and get a picture.

He is a great example of everything that is right in sports. Not too much more to say really. The guy's play, attitude & selflessness speaks for itself.

It's a toss-up between Taber and Finkelmeier.

They should split Co-Big Ten Player of the Year honors.

What about them?

They don't have a Big Ten Player of the Year candidate.

No other player should even be mentioned in this topic.

DJ is a unanimous lock.

"Illinois' Bruce Weber gave an early oral commitment to voting for White."

Was the irony in this sentence intentional or just a huge coincidence? That's hilarious.

DJ is a man,,, both on and off the court. He could have easily jumped ship and gone back to Alabama. While I don't think it is fair to what DJ has to go through this year, heck his whole career at IU. It's only going to make him that much more of a man. DJ is a Hoosier and after it is all said and done. He will go down as an Indiana University legend and help save our program. Thanks DJ we love you! Go Big Red!!!!!

Take the "award", if and when,+$0.99 and go get a "Whopper" @ Burger King. Then again, once he signs his BIG NBA contract, well, shucks, just go purchase the entire Burger King Organization.

D.J. White should be national player of the year. Any kid who has been through what he has for 4 years and has risen to where he is today is unbelievable. You could not offer for consideration anybody else in the country who has even come close to the skill, ability, perseverance, and leadership this young man has demonstrated. I know he came from Alabama but I can truly say that I for one am very proud to call him a Hoosier.
