Fickell's opportunity a challenge | BuckeyeXtra

For most of the past decade, Luke Fickell was not unlike most other young assistant coaches in college football: He aspired to someday be a head coach. Full Story

Sorry, but you're comparing a lot of apples to oranges. First comparing having a temper, culminated by one regrettable outburst -- which is not outlawed by the NCAA -- is not anywhere near comparable to a historical pattern of ethical/moral lapses, much of which is forbidden by NCAA rules. Next, there was no "show trial;" only a mountain of incontrovertible evidence that Tressel was clearly guilty of wrongdoing. Nobody "gunned" for Tressel. He did it to himself, the university, his players, and the fans. I find it especially ironic that you would bring up the "Christian" analogy, considering Tressel only made things worse by trying to portray himself as holding Christian values so dear, yet failed so miserably to implement them in his own career. I suspect that you know deep in your heart this is the truth, but you are just still too shocked by what has happened to let it sink in?
As I've said, like it or not, perception is often reality. And, in this case, as long as any members of his regime are still around, that tinge will remain. This is aside from the point that if they had some knowledge of what was going on, then they are as equally guilty and should be removed, anyway. This goes for the players involved in this scandal, as well. And, having a person with this big of a ethical/moral cloud around him will only hurt the team, regardless of whether or not his future intentions are honorable.
Finally, there are absolutely no guarantees that Fickell is going to bring unbridled success to the program, either. Again, if you're expecting great things from ANY coach for the next 2-3 years, you're just not facing reality. We're going to give new meaning to the word "rebuilding." But, at least a clean sweep is a huge step towards the rehabilitation of the program and our image, which right now is lower than whale cr@p at the bottom of the ocean.
UBL ?
There is absolutely no reason to jettison the entire coaching staff BEFORE the NCAA drops the hammer on OSU. Asst. coaches will be leaving on their own anyway. Let's just wait and see what happens. BTW I had football players sleeping thru classes in the early 1960's too...they passed.

Urban Liar should be rested up after a year worth of work for ESPN. He would be a perfect fit for osu. Over thirty players were arrested during his florida career. He played guys regardless of the charges if they were key contributors. He is probably a bigger cheater than Tressel. I thought it was pretty funny ESPN asked him to comment on the Tressel dismisal. Same holds true for the lisping leprechaun screwy lewy holtz. ESPN asks two of the biggest cheaters of alltime to comment on Tressel. What a joke.

Sitting down here in Florida, I have to read this combined character assasination
of fine man and football coach, whose greatest fault was trying to protect his players-and to those who say that was just to kepp winning-how about how he;s helped Clarett and others who have dropped out of the program? The man;s an educator and a leader. The stories that are now being manufactured by a bunch of media pansies and schlemiels like the S.I ****. are mainly based on the supposed infrmation supplied by miscreants and malcontents like Ray Small who was disciplined by Tressel for NOT meeting team player standards of conduct-and ex-or current convicts who worked at tattoo parlors.
Would any of the BS stand up in a court of law? I doubt it and Sports Illustrated
should be ashamed of this yellow (as in cowardly) journalism where these sleazes are trying to make the news even to the point of fabricating it with the lies of people with little or no credibility. S.I. should be banned form news stands and circulation in the state of Ohio-I'll never read this scum again! And where are these cowards researching the many and prevelant real recruting and pay of play violations like the Cam Newton scam?
Our so-called sports media is worthy of Joseph Goerbelswho said, ineffect, if you repeat a lie often enough, it will be become a fqct in the mind of the public.
The "apostrophe" key should be located directly to the left of the "enter" key on the right side of your keyboard (not your numeric keypad - there is a difference).

Good luck.

dont get it do you... You ain't getting no big name coach.. While you might not get the death penalty... Its going to be the very next thing... By the time the Ncca gets though with you. Indiana , and Purdue, will have to give up points with the odds makers playing you in the Shoe. I think it's going to take that for you to relize you Don't lie to the NCAA P.S. I will take Indiana and Purdue and give up the points!!!

Hire Oregon's OC or one of their assistants who knows that offense. The defect in Tressel was his play calling and conservative offense. Bollman can't even coach the offensive line and his recruits don't even get drafted in the NFL. Lets face it, Bollman only remained because Tressel was too loyal to get rid of him.
Absolutely right!

Haha, when the sanctions are handed out and the program can move on, they will be able to get about anyone the want. If you don't honestly believe that, you don't know much about college football (OSU football in particular). Aside from Florida, USC, and Texas, OSU is one of the best places to be for recruiting and there is already a ridiculously large following of the program. Pair that with the fact that OSU is one of few programs that makes good money every year, and it is a coaches dream job.

On a side note, if you honestly think OSU will be anywhere near the bottom of the Big Ten and are willing to bet on it, you are going to lose a lot of money.

Actually, I said he wasn't going anywhere based off of the knowledge I had at the time. The same knowledge you had. It wasn't until more stuff came out that he decided (or OSU decided) it was time for him to go. Your predictions were based off speculation. Mine were based on the facts at the time. Congrats...you made a guess and you were right. More often than not it doesn't work out that way.

OSU is still stacked, and with young players.

Your "so-called" Showing "YOUR" emotions on "YOUR shoulders, arms, chest, etc." has just brought down THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU! I hope you are all proud. I am absolutely disgusted with your sense of entitlement! I do not feel bad for you and your opportunity to obtain a wonderful degree from THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY or the OPPORTUNITY you HAD playing football at the level of eliteness, I feel bad for those young men who really wanted to be a Buckeye, but could not because you were "more" savory than they were and took THEIR SCHOLARSHIPS away. Guess what...you will play against those players and I hope they kick your TATTOOED behinds. HOW DARE YOU GUYS. To Luke, I only wish you the best.....you were trained by the best and I hope for a successful season, albeit with problems, but as a BUCKEYE TBDBITL member....Luke..."Drive, Drive On Down The Field With Your Men of the Scarlet and Gray! Nobody knows the future right now...not even the NCAA. They are still trying to figure out how to handle this. Do they try to set an example? Or do they take it easy now that Tressel resigned knowing that they could look like hypocrites after the one day Cam Newton investigation? Only time will tell.
