OK, given the economy and the fact that Ohio is surrounded by states already in the "game", passage of gambling was invitable. But we now need to amend the amendment to raise the tax rate. We also need to reconsider the locations and do some site selection work. Cleveland and Cinni can have theirs right where the voted for them, but here in the Short North of Franklin Co., we don't want one and we don't need one in the Arena District.

PLEASE Ohio do not screw this up like you did with EZ-Pass. There are systems in place in Many Many Other States....Reach out and get their help! You do not need to reinvent the wheel...And as for the "Ohio's political leaders to decide whether to mount a legal challenge or launch an effort to pass another constitutional amendment next year to replace parts of the measure approved yesterday" - STOP! You all complained when any idea's were presented for gambling saying "The Votes" told you no gambling----WELL NOW WE ARE SAYING "YES YES YES" Bring it on baby!

Of course the political numbnuts in Ohio are going to drag this out even longer if they can. Why would they want to get the jobs here, and money here sooner? Look at the slots in the racetracks, that got screwed over by the church going society and political numbnuts and now the horse tracks will be forced to close and 14,000 + jobs in Ohio will be lost. Hopefully the people prevail and the casinos get here sooner than later so the jobs come and help this struggling state out.

why the arena district in columbus? why not build it clear down on the south end next to scioto
downs where there is plenty of room for casino and plenty of parking? not to mention that no one needs to travel to the expensive arena district for everything, do they? hell, why not spread some of the wealth around to those who really need it?

Thanks, people of Ohio. The State of Indiana around the Cincinnati area thank you for hurting our gambling income even further. It's been hit hard by the global recession any way, why not by Buckeyes at the same time. I guess we'll need to reconsider how we finance our failing school systems in this State. At least you killed the racinos!

You could also find a gain in Hoosier activity around the Toledo area since we have very little gambling opportunities in the Fort Wayne area!

Best of luck to you.

"Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman, who opposed Issue 3, said lawmakers should move quickly to put a new amendment on the ballot to raise the tax rate, put the casino licenses up to bid and let cities regulate their locations and operations"

What a crock of crap! Impeach this bozo.... he has to get his grubby crooked hands on everything. Be glad when this joker is out of office. Coleman the cock jaw crook.

So finally Ohio joins the modern age & the politicians are already trying to figure out how to turn the will of the people (everyone who voted to allow casinos in Ohio) into legislation that is NOT what was voted on - sounds just like the anti-smoking legislation a few years ago that was to restrict smoking in SOME places while allowing it in others; then changed what was voted on to make it a ban.
You can tell politicians but you can't tell 'em much.

Now everyone one fron every other State will want to visit Ohio! Brilliant move.
The city will make money by addiction, great plan.
Not long and the casino in Columbus will be like city center and the arena district will be the home for theft, killings and prostitution.
Should have left it alone, or in Cleveland!

Now it's imperative that the legislature closes the loopholes and makes certain that the casino plan is one that the state and local communities can live with. The final version of the plan needs to be one written by Ohio government--not the casino owners.

The politicians stuck in the 20th century may get away with keeping a casino out of Columbus, but they will be making a huge mistake if they ignore a statewide and countywide election result for gaming in Toledo, Cleveland and Cincinnati. Democrat or Republican you both need to butt out of local government. Toledo, Cleveland and Cincinnati do not need to be told what to do by Columbus, shut up and take your sales tax and income tax.

Whether the economy is hurting or not, the fact is we're going from no casinos to four casinos- all in our major metropolitan areas- seemingly overnight. That is a really big deal. Actually, it makes me feel differently about Columbus, like maybe this isn't the type of city I'd want to live in after all.(I never would have moved to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, or Tama, Iowa).

Where were our public forums on this issue? Why an amendment to the constitution? Why no major public debate? Maybe I missed something, but in hindsight, I wish I'd done much more than simply show up to vote yesterday. I underestimated how many people would have knee-jerk reactions to the economy and throw their cities under a bus.

Way to go Ohio! Since this stste is in a budget crisis for the next multiple years, needed Medicaid services were going to perish after the ARRA money runs out in december 2010. The casino state revenue will aid in saving these vital programs. Programs that assist in caring for the "medically fragile (children and adults)" population in this state. Being and working close with the state Medicaid program,I am aware of these factors, of which none were brought out into the open by the oponents against Issue 3 or the supporters of Issue 3. Hooray for the people who blindly voted to save these needed programs!

What a shame that this issue passed. Do you really think this will create significant jobs? Do you really think this will help? Has there been any *real* positive effects of allowing casinos anywhere? My answer is obviously no. Clearly I am in the minority. As I said, it is a shame.
