OK Everyone... The boss is having issues with computers at his day job... So he asked that we get the Shop up and running for the 2009 Racing Season...

I will post the rules below for those of us that were not here during the 2008...

We all just have a good time in the Race Shop...

1: Questions you have about NASCAR stock racing.
(Boss has 21 years of racing know how, if he doesn't he'll let you know and possibly one of his assistants can answer it.
2: Post links to any news, article, or write up based on NASCAR.
3: He enjoys debating because everyone does not think the same. Thou he does not want it to become so overwhelming where personal insults come out, and the topic of debate goes way. Keep to the subject, and not to flaws of others. Everyone is entitled to think in their own way, but to insult somone because you disagree with their idea or thoughts is not, please remember there is more than one way to skin a cat.(no cat's are harmed in this saying from me.)

Great! I, for one, am looking forward to a great 2009 season!

One question, is there still a key under the mat in case we need to get in? lol

So here's the first question. I read that there was a snafu during a preseason show on Speed and you got to hear Darrel saying that he thought CA was going to be a ghost town. I.E. there isn't going to be a full field. Does anyone think that might just be the case? And if so, would it improve the racing or make it worse?

Frankly if there aren't a ton of people there I am all for that because I don't necessarily like crowds.

It will be interesting to see what will happen when the teams get to California. I agree with you, if you can go to the race track and it isn't packed full, it's much better for letting you be able to enjoy the race and the weekend there...They don't usually sell out at California anyway, do they?

As far as a short field, I listen quite a bit to the NASCAR channel on Sirius Radio, and the information coming from those guys, and things that are popping up every day, seems to indicate that there will still be a full field, at least for the first five races. There seem to be new teams, i.e., Tommy Baldwin's team, Joe Nemechek's team, Slugger Lavey's (sp?)team, and some others that are starting up, planning to run a full season, at least that's what they are saying. Whether they will be able to keep it up without sponsorship is yet to be seen.

I think that the bigger thing will be whether these guys are actually decent teams, or will they be start-and-park guys, just there to collect the prize money for 43rd place. I hope that's not where things are going this year, but it's just like everywhere else when the economy is bad; there are always opportunists who are out to make a quick buck while others flounder. Now is the time to buy real estate and buy into the stock market, but most people are afraid to take the risks. That looks like what these start-up teams are doing, taking the risk to make a little money.

Can't wait for the new season to start...10 more days to the Bud Shootout!

I don't think I gave an answer to your question about whether a short field will improve the racing or make it worse...

When I first thought about that, I felt like it might make the racing better, because some of the bottom dwellers, or the guys that are a wreck waiting to happen will be off the race track. But really, I don't think much will change with the racing, because it seems with the new car, it's all about getting out front and having clean air, then you are faster then everyone else. Once they are running further back in the pack, no one seems to gain much ground, so the racing will probably be about the same as last year, just less cars on the track.

I'd be curious what others think...

Now I know the season's almost here...the Race Shop is open...LOL I see that the fantasy league is ready to go too!! I'm planning a different strategy for picking my drivers this year! Hopefully, it will be more successful than last year.

I may have spoke to soon about the fantasy league. My team is there but I didn't find the league, wasn't it the Topix League last year or am I dreaming that?

Where's that. I'm in every free fantasy racing thing on nascar.com . That reminds me I have to do my picks. I don't have any buddy leagues to join.:-(

I do think the fields will be full but there will probably be some "start & park" teams there just for the paycheck.

It may end up helping some of the chase contenders since they won't have a 38-43 place finish (due to 5 or 6 S&P teams) if they get crashed out.

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Taurus

It's important that you keep that famous bull-headedness in check over the next couple of weeks. Be cool, calm and sensible and you'll find that you end up with things correctly and tidily done. Stick to the straight and narrow, no matter what the distractions or irritations around you. If you think outside the square, you'll begin to see how visualisation can change and shape your life. Trust your hunches and be ready to move on them.
