And the fact that you are surprised about this award shows how little you actually know about Nascar.

JR has an amazingly faithful fanbase. Obviously they would love to see better finishes and see him in VL more consistently, but they relate to him on a level that goes beyond the track. Maybe initially he picked up fans due to his father's tragic death, but now they are devoted to him.

Get over it!

I have nothing against Jr and I am still mad at Teresa for not making him boss at his fathers company.. If he had stayed there,, he would still be able to work with his buddy Tony on restrictor plate tracks and would have had at least 5 more wins right there..at LEAST 5 more wins.
I wish people would figure out what Rick Hendricks does to these drivers,, it is like he has to conquer them, to break them down before letting them be his chimp in a rocketship, robots.. it is a travesty that people do not HATE him for not focusing on Jr for the good of NASCAR. He got the boy signed and did not produce for Jr nor for most fans in the sport. Before going to HMS, Jr would wreck his car if he could not win with it.. and now they promise Kasey Kahne a shot at the championship... why??? kasey is not as talented as Jr is.

Most popular driver, does he get a trophy for that?
He needs to fill that empty trophy case some way.
He's had how many different crew chiefs and crews since he started driving for Hendrick and hasn't won a race since 2008? Now Hendrick gets the blame for his inferior driving skills. Classic!
He aint his old man, deal with it.

Maybe the fools running NASCAR into the ground will change the rules and let Jr Nation elect the next Sprint Cup champion.

Well Teresa's bunch never won a race this year. Junior is lucky to get away from that mess. They just fired 3 of their top men in management. Some had been around for a long time.

You got a rude mouth there zippy, have some class and respect. His slamming into the wall wasnt Srs legacy, it was 7 championships and a respect from his peers that made Sr. Sure, everybody didnt like him, but, everybody respected him.

Will that change ,the fans choose another MPD of the yr. in time to come, of course it will.

i like all the earnhardts, i dont think jrs dad could drive in todays nascar, or a lot of the other drivers that really liked the sport. they are all great drivers, that do what they can with thier nascar cookie cutter cars. with all the safety in the sport now, throw the restrictor plates out, and let these guys race.
