NASCAR: Can Jeff Gordon Ever Win Another Sprint Cup Series Championship?

I agree, a very stupid question. Of course he can. A better question would have been: Will he? At least than you could formulate an opinion on that. He's won 4, so we know that he's more than capable of winning another.

Not a stupid question. If you look at what happened at the end of the Michigan race yesterday, you really have to wonder if he or any of his team can make the decisions that win races or gain valuable points. The was a late caution and the race would be restarted with 4-5 laps to go. Jeff had labored in mid-pack all day but finally clawed his way to 7th. Most everyone hits the pits for at least a splash of gas, some for 2 tires. Gordon takes 4 tires and in the process loses 10 spots in the pits. Is he incapable of driving only 4 laps with only 2 fresh tires? That was a bonehead call and shows that no one on that team has the guts to race against the younger guys that are winning today's races. I've seen these kinds of late race calls over and over during the last several seasons so you can't blame them on his current crew chief. It boils down to Gordon making the call and he blew it.

Well, being as he already has two wins in the bag this season, my guess is YES, he and his team can make the decisions that win races and gain valuable points.

When the season only comes down to 10 races, and pushing more cookie-cutter 1.5 mile tracks into the chase, its really anybody's grab. Champions are not crowned by the best driving in the chase, the champion is the team that makes the fewest mistakes.
