An athlete can drive a racecar. But being a NASCAR driver DOES NOT automatically make one an athlete.
Why is that so hard to understand.

I honestly can not say that Joonyer is overrated, he is beyond a doubt over hyped, however, nobody with any NASCAR knowledge has ever expected much from Joonyer. Joonyer had a streak from 2001 through 2004 where his cars were so obviously superior that a no talent hack like Michael Waltrip could get two victories and several other top 5s for the first and only time in his career. Other than that span in the plate cars, Joonyer has been just another hack running around in top of the line equipment with precious few good finishes to show. Joonyer is really having a hard time in the new car because the new car takes more driver skill and ability to adapt to many more changes in the car during a race. The Nation Wide car and the older car operated more like a wind foil and was aided more by aero than the new car which is much more dependent on mechanical grip and driver ability. Joonyer and the team has obviously written off the last part of this year being that they are not in the same zip code as the front 12 and would have to run two races alone to catch up. It will be interesting to see who catches the blame next year for Joonyer's obvious lack of talent. Joonyer's ability can best be summed up by an old Tony Stewart statement. Today's cup car demands that drivers be able to play a great game of chess at speeds of 200 MPH and Joonyer only has the brains to play checkers.

I bet you couldn't run a mile in Jr's shoes and see what he goes through day in and day out with the media on his back.

We hit 104 the other day. A/C has been our friend this year. They have the "no smoking" thing in the bars here now. You have to go outside to smoke during Happy Hour. It is really hurting the bar business.

I thought it was an interesting, well written article. I think the reason the media is beginning to speak out is because of how NASCAR rams Jr down everyones throats. Not an ad or promotion comes out without his picture,.. why? Not warranted based on his performance; must be name and following. Fans of racing have long been non-fans of his. But NASCAR has too much invested to treat him like the rest of the also rans who aren't named after a dead hero.

No Lisa. He isn't just an expert on Junebug but also on truck driving, grammar and spelling, every form of racing ever invented and who knows what else. He's the Topix version of Dr. Phil. Talks alot and claims to know everything but doesn't have a degree in any of it. Jack of all trades master of none.

I think everyone puts too much pressure on Jr. They want him to be Dale Sr. He is not Dale Earnhardt, he is Dale Earnhardt JR.
