Mexican Immigrants Repeatedly Brave Risks to Resume Lives in United States

Full story: www.nytimes.com

Migrant shelters along the Mexican border are filled with seasoned crossers: older men and women, often deportees, braving ever-greater risks to get back to their families in the United States — the country they consider home.

No matter how many times they are arrested hardened criminals rarely change their life style. The fact that there are fewer new criminals trying to cross the border is a good sign. Perhaps if punishments for those who repeatedly crossed the border illegally were actually handed out rather than just sending them home even the hardened criminals would stay home.

Hence the term "career criminals".

Harsh penalties are needed. Long sentences at hard labor for human smugglers, huge fines and actual 3-5 year no parole sentences for anyone hiring an illegal alien, and jail time for illegals who repeatedly cross the border after deportation. Finally securing the border by all means necessary to prevent the cartels and illegals from getting in. It won't stop it all but it will greatly reduce it.

They're not 'braving risks'. They're sneaking into a country that doesn't want and doesn't welcome them.

Really. YOU don't call that taking a risk ? apparently somebody wants them and welcomes them, because when they cross the border, they already know where to go (city or state) and somebody it's waiting for them. Always.

Reality, my dear. They're not brave enough to band together and fix their homeland, so they turn tail and run to where they hear things are a bit easier.

Nothing new there. Are the Cubans in the US fighting for their country ? NO. They tried at one time decades ago, but it failed. Has any one tried again ? NO. Did the US won WWII by itself ? NO. The US needed assistance from other countries. No, it's not easy.

And yet they fly Mexican flags on their cars and tattoo them on their bodies. They don't have a concept of "patriotism" like we do.

The US won its independence in the 1700s. It was instrumental in helping *other nations* overcome the Germans, the Japanese and others in WWII.

You want a country? Fix your own, don't invade mine. That's what this is all about.

You're extremely ignorant.

The US *gave* help to other countries that were losing WWII. We originally wanted nothing to do with it, but were drawn in when Germany kept sinking our freighters in the Atlantic. As we all know, the Japanese drew us into the Pacific conflict on December 7, 1941 (frankly, I'd be surprised if you actually know what happened; I recommend google).

My kind? You mean people who *have* served in the armed forces and spent time deployed into conflict? The people with good jobs who pay loads of taxes and contribute to the world around them? Yeah, we're the scum of the earth.

As we both know, opinions are free; here's mine. It's people like you, the illegal alien enablers, that we need to do away with. You have no loyalty and no sense of decency. You and your ilk would never serve in the military or take any risk for anything other than self. You have no concept of community, only what society can do for you. That's why we need to rid ourselves of you.

You're truly a parasite - an extremely ignorant parasite.

"seasoned crossers: older men and women, often deportees, braving ever-greater risks to get back to their families in the United States."

Why don't they put that energy into changing their country that way they won't have to leave their families and they could live in their own country. But they look for the easier way out, sneak into someone else's country and hide out.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Taurus

Get involved in financial transactions at your peril under today's Lunar Eclipse, because certain people will use them as a stick to beat you with. For instance, if you ask someone to lend you money they'll either make you feel guilty about it or dredge up all sorts of past instances when their trust was betrayed. You would also be well advised to avoid any show of possessiveness or jealousy, even if you feel it, unless you truly don't care about the disastrous outcome.
