In all of their years in the US,why didn't they bother with the naturalization process? Also, the article insinuates that non-residents (illegal aliens) can serve in the military. This is inaccurate, if an illegal is found to be in the service, he or she is booted out. This whole article is just more La Raza propaganda in an attempt to pull at the American voter's heartstrings.

We should thank them for their service to this country. In the article there was a example of one who repetitively violated drug laws ... If these individuals are convicted laws should apply.

Radical Tim, drug laws are senseless they punish addicts...and addicts need treatment..incarceration or deportation isn´t going to fix that. We need to legalize drug use and criminalize trafficking period.

The article says: "More and more cases have come to light of veterans who, after serving in this country’s Armed Forces and armed conflicts, get in trouble with the law when they come home and end up in deportation proceedings." That's been the law for years and years. If you're a legal foreign national, you get to stay in our lawful society if you obey our laws. Citizens have no exuse for breaking laws, why should non-citizens be excused? On the deported man who'd been in the USA for 30 years: why didn't he become a citizen in all those years? Then he wouldn't have been deported. I feel sorry for these former soldiers, but isn't deportation better than doing a jail sentence? At least they're free. Illegals don't understand the concept of national sovereignty. That's their biggest problem.

Allot of veterans resort to drugs to cope with what they had to endure. They need help not deportation. This is a horrific example of how pathetic the immigration system is!

People this a propaganda article. How does one join the miltary ? You just walk in and say hey I'm here sign me up ? You mean to tell me the miltary doesnt check out your documentation ? If he was here illegally he never brought it up ? Something smells fishy here. He broke other laws ( besides immigration)? My "personal" opinion is those who serve our country in the miltary honorably, should get a fast tract to citizenship. Provided they don't commit criminal acts in the mean time. This article sounds like something La Raza would come up with.

The article fails to mention if any foreign veterans have sought help and are not being deported because of this. Perhaps this article is slanted and not telling the entire truth. Ever consider that, slick? Why should foreign nationals get something citizens aren't getting for the same service? Because they whine louder in the globalist, pro-illegal press? Citizen soldiers are not getting help from our globalist government, either. Many of them are homeless and unable to get any veterans' benefits at all. Blame the snakes in the federal government and the Veterans' Administration, not long-standing immigration laws. But then, your concerns and expectations of special treatment for foreign nationals are based on race alone, not service to the military.

Ip, the 1996 law doesn´t make exceptions...so if you know of exceptions you should post them in fact the law applies to all minor offenses even if they occurred 50 years ago.

I know if you are 18 years old and been in the U.S. for a certin amount of time but not a citizen you can join the service to give yourself a fast tract to citizenship, BUT the same RULES apply you must stay out of trouble and not become a drain on the Country (by not using public funds). So these people whinning "I served my country" are full of shit because you were doing so to become a citizen as this was not yet YOUR country and you knew the rules. I do want to say that I have great respect for those who choose this route to citizenship.
