Man, this dude needs to go sit down someplace. He is about to drop another book and he comes out talking about he is an outcast in the Black community. NO SHIT. He knows we don't play that shit in Black community. He should have kept his buried deep in the closet.

Besides, how is someone being DL attributed to Black Men? Married Men of all races have been doing that shit for years and now the media and even stupid ass Blacks are going to put a label on themselves and as usual it is something negative.

This dude is not trying to save lives, he is trying to line his pockets and exploit the fact that he is gay.

I agree. It is funny how some people make statements they think are 'cute', at the time, only to change their positions when it bites them.

I think that's part of the problem. A lot of blacks don't want to acknowledge that homosexuality not only exists, but is growing rapidly. Some of us want to turn a 'blind-eye' to what's going on around us. Even though you may not agree with the DL lifestyle (I sure don't) it's so much better to talk about it than to embrace the consequences UNVOLUNTARILY.

You're right, DL men probably come in all shapes and colors. But culturally, whites have accepted homosexuality to a greater degree than blacks. That's a fact. Just as whites have been more sexually liberated for a longer time. Most of the brothers I knew growing up wouldn't have dared to reveal their homo status for fear of being mistreated, shunned, outcasted... For this reason, I would argue that there are many more brothers who are living this lifestyle and are in denial.

[QUOTE who="Concerned Black Citizen....This dude is not trying to save lives, he is trying to line his pockets and exploit the fact that he is gay[/QUOTE]

This may be true, no one knows his, or anyone else's intent. But it's better to be open about DL. When you don't talk about something, you don't KNOW about it.(It's like a closed brain doesn't get fed).

KNOWING = PROTECTION whether or not you support or despise the lifestyle.

JL King is a nasty, ignorant freak!!! He sold out his wife and children for some crusty, nasty, hairy man ass and he have the nerve to brag about it like some profound asshole!! It's bad enough that there is a shortage of black men in America. Given the fact that many black American men are either dead or in the prison system. But this sadistic freak from hell is encouraging what's left of black men in America, to be freak like himself. Hey FREAKY DEEK!!!! Just because your sick ass sold out, it don't mean that the rest of the black male population has to!!

While i whole-heartedly agree that King is exploiting the situation to maximize on his own financial situation (you should read Keith Boykin's "Beyond the Down Low", a response the King), I think your early comments are misguided and judgmental.

the definition of being on the down low is: being actively involved with women without disclosing your full sexuality, and without identifying as being gay or even bisexual.

the term "down low" refers largely to the black sub-group of that definition. it's not just the media or "stupid ass blacks" as you ignorantly claim (though I understand your anger of the accusations).

JL King publicized the term, but by no means did he create it. it is used by black men who fit the definition, and as seen in other studies, the use of the term PURPOSELY excludes white men. the down low culture is a way for those men to describe what they are doing without subscribing to mainstream white gay culture.

in sum. King= greedy capitalist. definition of the term down low= applicable to all races, and even all genders. but the term itself is not.
