They don't make pop stars like Connie Francis anymore. Francis, 68, exploded on the music scene at age 19 with her first hit - ''Who's Sorry Now,'' then went on to become the most popular songstress of the late ...

Yes Connie Francis was hugely successful during the early Rock 'n' Roll years. Her songs were very popular in Dance halls back then.

Anyone know more about the Elvis related anecdote?

QUOTE:

"Francis’ voice was powerful and evocative. So emotionally moving that she once brought the King of Rock ’n’ Roll, Elvis Presley, to tears.

‘‘He had just lost his mother and I was appearing in Las Vegas and he came in with a whole group of people in the front seat and I started to sing ‘Mama’ and he started to cry and he got up and left and the next day he sent me two dozen yellow roses and an apology. He had been so affected by that song. That song moved a lot of people.’’
UNQUOTE:

First I had ever heard of that story, Maurice. I like many of her songs back then. Then she kind of faded from the scene. Wasn't she raped and went through a whole lot of mental/emotional issues because of it. It seems that is the way I remember her story.

I loved the anecdote. It does sound like our sweet ELVIS doesn't it.

Yes I remember reading about Connie Francis being attacked in her apartment. A very sad story.

Yes it sounds like an Elvis act alright. It would be nice to get that story verified.

Yes, I think a verification would be especially good in this case before repeating the story, even though it does sound like ELVIS.

I so loved Connie Francis. Elvis is my favorite male singer. She is my favorite female. I had always hoped that THEY would get together. Too bad she loved Bobby Darin and Elvis had to fall for Priscilla.

Hi Lee, did'nt Connie first sing My happiness and then Elvis... since he loved Connie's voice and that song which he sang for his mother....actually the first song to be recorded?

I don't know. I'm not sure I remember her version of My Happiness. I do remember the tearjerker "Among My Souvenirs" and some of the others. Now that there are CDs and records won't have to take up so much space, I think I'll start collecting her music again.

Aron, I think you will find Elvis sang it before Connie recorded it. I could be wrong so I will search further.

Lee, yes I like Connie Frances music. She had some great hits when I was a teenager. All those centuries ago ;-)

If this is the same song, and not a different song with the same name, Elvis recorded it first. She wasn't even famous until after Elvis was.

Aron, are you sure you are talking about Connie Francis? I wouldn't describe her voice a clear like chimes. Some people said her voice was nasal, but I liked it.
