DOH! Is it really a surprise that as an audience we know already that this "new" orchestra will be just as bad as the local pick up ensembles they have used the past couple of years. SURPRISE! We don't want to pay good money to hear bad orchestras!

If only the South Florida region had an internationally recognized, full time orchestra of it's own.... Oh, that's right, it used to until it was allowed to die five years ago this month !!

Well, the Orchestra could be pretty good, or pretty bad depending who would be playing at any particular time. However, I know that some of the really good players who were on the roster for Concert Association will not participate next year, because they declined to play in the (FGO) Opera Orchestra and the contractor, Alfredo Oliva, wants every one to be playing both Florida Grand Opera and the Concert Association, even though there would be conflicts between those two, and even though he was practically trying to employ all these players from Palm Beach Opera (where there would be conflicts too) These musicians would have had to quit the Palm Beach Opera orchestra (or take a leave of absence) in order to switch.Bravo to their solidarity, shame on Oliva to think that he could steal an orchestra. Now, unfortunately, Florida Grand Opera will be stuck with the same freelance group that the audiences do not even want to listen to as a Symphony Orchestra. Playing as a Symphony orchestra is much easier than playing Opera... It takes years to gain enough experience in that field...and it is TOTALLY different than playing in a Symphony Orchestra. GOOD LUCK!!!

Please don't try and hijack this to a discussion about Florida Grand Opera. I love FGO and think what they have done to their orchestra is another stupid South Florida Arts Tragedy. But this discussion is about the poor management decision to take a failing financially troubled institution like CAF and decide to launch a proven money loser like a bad local orchestra.

I totally agree, I love FGO too, but this is a poor management decision by both institutions to hire the SAME contractor... and the SAME (bad)orchestra. And yes, both of them are South Florida Arts Tragedies...
