You are missing the best Baltimore song - from a group called the Five Chinese Brothers - that played the indie scene in the early 90s
I can't find the link, but here are the lyrics
Once we won the series, took it going away
Once we sat on top of the nfl and the nba
But all that's over now, time went and slammed the door
And even i packed up and left the city of baltimore
You know, the older we get the more we stay the same
I just found out my radio can pick up the oriole games
I tune in every half-an-hour to get the score
And remember the day's when i was growing up in baltimore
Back then i lived in a house, not a one-room flat
I didn't have to work or buy food or do anything like that
And the first girl that i ever loved lived right next door
At night i'd take my dad's car and drive around baltimore
Something tells me this picture isn't right
Like i'm forgetting how i smashed my dad's car driving stoned one night
How my parents fought, how i never even dated the girl next door
How i was just a lonely mixed-up kid in baltimore
Looking back now, you know i do believe
When i lived in baltimore, i couldn't wait to leave
Go somewhere else and get a brand-new start
Now i'm dressing up the past 'cause the present is falling apart
The older we get the more we stay the same
Chasing after something that doesn't even have a name
You know, we'll always trade what we've got for what we had before
Everybody's a fool for something, i'm a fool for baltimore

Baltimore: a muse for many
Baltimore has been many a musician's muse over the years. Today, the indie rock group Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks release their latest album, Real Emotional Trash.

What about Lyle Lovett's "Baltimore?" A glaring omission, particularly since several of these are admittedly terrible.

Why is Randy Newman's contribution ranked #1? He's admitted that he wrote the song after being in town merely a few hours - and actually has said he regretted writing it as it's an unfair assessment.

It's Gram Parsons, not Graham.

You forgot my favorite Tim Hardin's "The Lady Came from Baltimore".
|
|
|
The Lyle Lovett song is actually good.

Nina Simone's version of the Randy Newman song is better!

|
|
Glad to see the Malkmus song made the list!

|
What about Eddie from Ohio's song Baltimore from their album This is Me?

Good God, All these songs are either cheesey (out of date), completely lack appeal; are vulgar or are depressing as hell, including the Lyle Lovett tune. Says alot about the city!

...and of course there's my favorite, Frank Zappa's What's New in Baltimore? There are a handful of different versions of this one, but check out the one from the album Does Humor Belong in Music?; it's fantastic squared.

And you've overlooked our own guitar legend Roy Buchanan whose recording of Baltimore is on SWEET DREAMS - THE ANTHOLOGY.
AND How about GOOD MORNING BALTIMORE from Hairspray? |

Although Baltimore is not in the title. I think your article should have had a passing mention of the most famous song with Baltimore in the lyrics. I am talking about, Hungry Heart, by Springsteen of course.

On my not-terribly active blog about a Baltimore kid stuck in DC, I put up a bunch of Baltimore-based songs on an embedded mp3/streaming media player. Standard Thompson, a Twin Cities power pop band does a killer song called "Baltimore."

Why no Rock 'N' Roll? No Super Rock? Randy Newman? Gram Parsons? C'Mon!!! What about the Fleshtones "Girl from Baltimore"!!!!

The Strawberry Alarm Clock did a song 'Barefoot in Baltimore' which evokes the sizzling summers of Balmer.
|
|
|
Culturally speaking? What about Barry Levinson! Big omission. What are the last five of the ten songs? Looks like someone goofed

Mr. Sessa missed more good songs about Baltimore than he mentioned. Here are a few off the top of my head:
--Baltimore Oriole [Lorez Alexandria] --Boogie Woogie Baltimore [Charlie Daniels] --Baltimore Fire [New Lost City Ramblers] --Baltimore Bounce [Al Sears] --Baltimore Oriole [George Harrison version] --Baltimore [Lyle Lovett] --Baltimore [Drifters] --Back, Back, Back to Baltimore [Zeb Turner] |

Where is " Barefoot in Baltimore" or "Hello Baltimore" ?
