Well,...I've read a ton of books about the old Seattle scene..and the thing is, every band sounded different. If you read up on the deluxe version of Soundgarden's Telephantism Cornell says himself that all "grunge" was, was just a label that was used by record labels to sell to the masses. It was more of a tiny scene associated with a location. Also, when it came out of the Seattle area, it had a different sound to it at the time. All of those other bands are not really grunge because they are not from Seattle from the 1980s...No, that's right, I said the 1980s. Soundgarden formed in 1984 with Cornell on drums, Hiro Yammamoto on bass guitar, and Kim Thayil. The FIRST "grunge" band was Malfunkshun that was around originally from 1980-88. Their lead singer was Andrew Wood. Most people don't even know who he is, but he went on to form a band called Mother Love Bone...if it wasn't for Andrew dying of a drug overdose there is no Eddie Vedder and NO Pearl Jam, as well as NO Temple Of Dog...Temple of Dog was a tribute to Andrew Wood from Chris Cornell cause he was his best friend and roommate. The line "Temple Of Dog" was taken from a Mother Love Bone song called "Man Of Golden Words." There was also Green River which was also one of the first grunge bands that was around from 1984-88. That had Ament, Gossard. Members from Green River went on to form Mudhoney as well.

So will "grunge" ever be reformed? No, but there have been, are and will be plenty of imitators.

As for bands like Bush, don't get me wrong, they were decent, but they were far from "grunge." They didn't even form until 1991 and were from England. By that time Nirvana was already well known with Nevermind. They were what I call a "copy band."

That's not to say that something decent will never come out again though. God, with all the crap infested mainstream now days we can only hope.

As for Pearl Jam, they are the only exception for a band that was formed in the early 1990s that can be called "grunge." Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard as I said were a part of Green River and were playing in those group of bands a good three or so years before Alice In Chains or Nirvana were even thought of...cause both of those bands were formed in 1987.

I don't even consider Candlebox a grunge band. Why? Cause they moved to Seattle and formed in 1991 in order to catch the bandwagon and got popular in 1994.

Kurt Cobain hated Candlebox cause of that.

Some other grunge bands" Screaming Trees, Melvins, Gruntruck, UMen.

Mother Love Bone's Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns:

That song was included in the soundtrack and movie "Singles' which came out in the early 1990s capitalizing on Seattle and the music there around that time.

The sad part about Andrew Wood was that Mother Love Bone had been signed by Polygram and was due to release their debut album but he died of a heroin overdose just a few weeks to days before it was due to be released. He was literally that close to making it big.

Malfunkshun: http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Malfunkshun actually restarted again and are still really obscure. Andrew's brother Kevin played bass guitar in that band and releases stuff that is really obscure and still underground on wammybox.com
