1 It was a joke for gosh sakes! Reba read it off of a teleprompter -- she didn't write it! Yes, she could have decided not to read it as she had some other Dixie Chicks jokes, but she decided to let this one Chicks joke in! God bless you, Reba, for sticking up for yourself and your many fans (myself being your biggest fan)! I have never been a Chicks fan nor a Toby fan, so neither of their CDs would show up on my 5-disc CD changer anyway!:) You know what, if the Dixie Chicks hadn't started this whole mess over again in order to get some publicity for their new CD, then the writers for the ACM Awards Show would not have felt the need to write any Dixie Chicks jokes for the show. The Chicks themselves have opened the door again for negative comments to be made about them, with the release of their initial single from the new CD and from comments made in articles, interviews, etc., that led up to the CD release. I'm personally wondering whether the whole Reba mention in Time magazine wasn't just a setup; the Chicks knew full well that Reba was hosting the show and when the article was going to run in Time, so they baited the ACM writers especially, knowing full well that the writers would do something just like they did! My congrats to the Chicks' publicity/marketing people -- well done people! The Chicks must be desperate for CD and concert ticket sales! |

1 No matter what she's done in her career she's nothing but white trash from OK. Martie made the statement in time magazine which was her right to do and everybody will say Reba's got a right to say what she wants. That may be true, but the 'way' she did it showed a total lack of class. Another dumb redneck pandering to the republican rednecks. |

3 Well, now. You sound just like all the other people bashing the Dixie Chicks. Reba spoke her mind - that freedom of speech thing - and now you are going to through away her cds because of her stupid comments. Good God, there will be no more female country singers by the time this is all over with. |

1 Whoa!!!! How do you get all out of some girls saying they are ashamed of a man is from Texas? May God protect you and yours but your statements are not fair to any one. We all know someone in the war and we all hurt for the soldiers and families, we are all AMERICAN's but we don't have to like Bush nor do we have to agree with him. He still hasn't faced charges of Desertion and he wants to be commander in chief, get real. He is just a man from Maine whose family moved to Texas to get rich off the oil, he happened to (?)get elected to the white house in which he thinks he is God and he plays God everyday with everyones life. Do you really think Bush gives a rats ass about the people of any of these countries, including ours? We have special forces, special ops that could of dealt with Saddam and Bin ages ago, without a full fledged war.........why didn't we, because Bush has power and more OIL and then there is his cocaine, alcholic addictive ass he needs to worry about.....Defend Bush in God's name, won't you go to hell for that???? You know my ancestors fought in every war from the American Rev to current and they did so for FREEDOM......all of them and now I have excercised mine. And again, they said they were ashamed the man was from Texas, how treasonous....... them being from Texas, I guess that would make them not ignorant and know what they are talking about and since you are ranting about crap you don't even get, wouldn't that make you ignorant. Why don't you read the constitution before attacking people for expressing themselves.......Freedom of Speech without recourse but I guess that only applies to YOU. Don't come on a Chicks Forum slingin mud, it will get slung back. Bash this........you must be a God fearin' woman with the blues... |

1 Actually Stacey, Reba spoke for someone else's mindset and she too could of stopped the statement but a dig is a dig........What is that line from Forest Gump.......stupid is as stupid does, I think that may apply to what happened, but she is still a great singer as are the Chicks. The new theory is the old theory, the more the hype the more the sells, so actually Reba and the ACM just helped the Chicks push more CD's. Have a good one. Just wondering, If country music is boycotting them why is the ACM website, pushing the new CD :) |

1 Hmmmm...interesting point, txchik, but way off the mark. So Martie makes a statement in Time magazine (which, by they way, she gives their band's major fan base a kick in the teeth by attempting to distance themselves from "rednecks", "Reba McIntire" and "Toby Keith" in her words), and that is ok. I didn't realize freedom of speech only applied to one side of the argument. The 'way' she went about it is completely irrelevant. Freedom of speech knows no boundaries. Reba had every right to respond to her being sleighted by the DC regardless of venue. Fair's fair, don't ya think? You call it a classless act only because of your political standing. Duh. |

1 You must be in the 12 to 25 age group, you don't know what tearing a country apart with stupid comments can do. Respect is something that is necessary to keep order, and using their popularity as country music stars (country music is all about being free and loving our country and family and man and woman and kids and God) was just wrong! There are kids that are so weak minded that they can take a simple comment like that and ruin their lives and others just because they are so enamoured of someone famous. The majority ruled, Bush is President, and remember Congress and the Senate had to vote for us to go to war so maybe being there is not so crazy. Study your history, America has always gone to the aid of countries that needed our strength and guts to fight for what is right. I believe that we could not sit back and do nothing again. Do you see, I say we, we are the United States of America, with all our differences and opinions and lifestyles and religions. We all have an obligation to try to keep our country together no matter what. There is no place on this God given earth that humans have it as good as we have it here. So let you and the dixie chicks have your say and have your immature ways of disrespect and thinking you know everything. Eventually you will be in control and you will lose our right to live what the Constitution of this Great Country gave us all. Good bye and good luck and when you grow up, you just might remember what an old Brickmason told you would happen, when it happens, not if it happens. |

1 OK so we know that you do not understand the meaning of Freedom of Speech and we know you do not respect our government and we know what your political party is, we also know that you used God to defend the dixie chicks. From all that, we get that you may go to church, you may tell people that you believe in God, you may tell people that you understand politics and religion. But you forgot to do the most important thing. Study your Bible and your History. Read the prophecies, study what they tell you about the times we are in. Study about where your ancestors came from and why they were led here to come to this place to build and fight for what you enjoy everyday. Yes we, are all Americans, but there is a time and a place for everything. Using their popularity to cause a divide in this country was just wrong. I'm old, so respect and honor mean a lot to me. No, I will not go to hell, My God and I are sure of that. I'll pray for your understanding of life, and the knowledge that right is right and wrong is wrong and there is no gray matter. By the way, you will probably be surprised to know that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican, that's why I chose that party. He believed in rights for all people, I do too, but not when they are causing trouble in a world that needs no more. Good Bye and Good Luck with your Dixie Chicks. |

1 I do not respect George W Bush. I respect government that works for the people not for self, which Bush does. I vote for whom ever I believe will actually do what they say, regardless of party. I did not use God to defend the DIXIE CHICKS, I used the constitution. I do know the constitution and FREEDOM OF SPEECH, I use it often as do the DIXIE CHICKS. They are not my DIXIE CHICKS, although I do like thier music, I will defend any one who uses thier constitutional rights and then persucuted for it. I know the revalations and they could be be inturpeted as BUSH being the one who starts the final war. I have documented statements from my ancesters for where they came from and why and why they fought in the wars they fought and died for FREEDOM from British tyrants, the US government and LINCOLN. I am a DIXIE CHICK and the Bush's of the world are all about themselves. As for Lincoln, he believed in the rights for all people but not for the rights of property, liberty and the pursuit of happiness or the CIVIL WAR would not have been. MY ancestors were awarded properties for fighting to defend this land and then had them and thier families raped, piliaged, burned and murdered. Why? Because they wanted thier constitutional freedoms. Nothing to do with slavery. And God will bless me always as well as you. Again how is such an uproar created over someone, regardless of who, said they were ashamed of man was from Texas. That is thier right as it is yours, the difference is that FREEDOM OF SPEECH without recourse doesn't apply to THE DIXIE CHICKS because thier famous, singers, females etc. The whole point is FREEDOM OF SPEECH without recourse....And they have paid a price for all of this and the constitution says differently so who is wrong here, the public or the Chicks? |

1 Ok, you don't like GW...fair enough. But that same constitution you and the DC stand behind belongs to every American, regardless of whose side you're on. So you will "defend ANYONE who uses their constitutional rights and then gets persecuted for it"? My belief system tells me otherwise. Hate groups are persecuted, but they're also protected. Would you stand side by side with hate-based organizations simply because they are exercising their right to free speech despite? I highly doubt that. Though hate speech is protected by the constitution, it is still my right to not defend a Klan member, or someone from Louis Farakhan's Nation of Islam. They can demonstrate their racial hatred all they want, but in the end, I'll be the one standing on the sidelines watching them kill each other off rather than defend either of them of their rights. And I'll sleep well just the same. As for your interpretation of freedom of speech without recourse, well, I hate to have to tell you this but what would you have expected after the DC made such a bold statement? To think that opining in a public forum, while holding their once-glimmering celebrity status, would not come with consequences is actually quite naive. You reap what you sow....plain and simple. |

1 While your words are true to a point, I still believe that you, I and even the Dixie Chicks have the freedom to say what we feel and we shouldn't be punished for it. Even you said since I don't like GWB, fair enough. I say alot about Bush, mostly negative. Should I be put to death, in prison, my livley hood taken, my life threaten etc. as an individual? Or is your total view just about celebs stating thier opinon? Had John Wayne made the statement or John Doe made it and it publicized would it have made a difference? If you said you were embarrassed that he was from your state and the same things happened to you and your family would you still feel you deserved to be treated this way? |

1 Well, I have no idea where you came up with that extreme example, but you have enough common sense to answer such an insidious statement as being put to death for your actions. We may be protected by our wonderful constitution, but thre's always going to be an opposing view that yearns to be heard. And who knows what might've happened if John Wayne said it? Irrelevant. Generally speaking, people are a fickle lot as to when to choose their battles. Unfortunately for the DC, they got nailed for their remarks by the very hands that feed them. Also, nowhere did I state that consequences for one's actions be exclusive to celebrities. What I did say is that the constitution protects EVERYONE. However, with celebrity status comes the potetntial of jeopardizing your fan base. The DC can say whatever they want for all I care, but hey, they will, and already have alienated enough of their fan base as a result of their statements. Ms. Maguire has even gone on record as preferring to have a small group of cool people enjoy their music then have fans who keep Ms. McIntire and Mr. Keith in their CD changer...and the final blow was saying that they'd rather not have those kinds of fans. Where's a good publicist when you need one? There are alot of things I am embarrassed about with my local government, and I exercise my right to opine as I deem necessary. But once again, celebrities are in a high profile position that reach out to the masses. So there's an even greater degree of responsibility that comes with having such a status. |
