Tim Grobaty: New Vault 350 keeps acts, well, in the vault

Full story: Long Beach Press-Telegram

The Vault 350 at the corner of Pine Ave and 4th Street in Long Beach. HOPING FOR THE BEST: Here's what the New Vault 350 hopes to be: A big, state-of-the-art successful popular music club playing host to major-name artists and anchoring the generally unsettleable northern end of the Pine Avenue entertainment district.

Just a matter of time before they are holding CSLB 18 and over Thursday night dance parties, violating 2/3 of their conditional use permits guidelines and drunk coeds will be throwing up on the sidewalks while LBPD stand around doing nothing. I personally observed this more then a few times under the previous owner. Unfortunately this is the type of club promotion that ends up 'sticking.'

Since the entire object of going to a "club" is to get drunk that is all we can expect from them. As for the police, I think they just get tired of making out paperwork every
night to monitor a revolveing door at the precinct. I wouldnt waste my time arresting the drunks either unless I saw them get into a car.

Who would want Leon Russel anyways? He was great in his time but now, most of the people who listened to him are dead. Ken Phebus sounds like he is too old to know who to book. I am glad that they are bringing in a fresh, young new talent buyer so that maybe we can actually see shows that appeal to everyone instead of only senior citizens.

I went to Ultra Music Festival in Miami and Craig Barkovsky was the head talent buyer for them and he booked rad artists. He booked the Cure, the Killers, Shiny Toy Guns, to name a few. His line up was sick.

I think you're confusing Leon Russell with Rudy Valley. Russell's still in his sixties. McCartney's age. In the blues dept. that's prime time. I suspect your taste in music mirror's your ability to relate to time, so your opinion doesn't matter.

From what I understand they are renovating the Vault back to its original historic beauty so I don't think it is a waste of taxpayer dollars. It looks like it is really going to be a classy place. I think it will bring in a lot of upscale patrons.

Every article I've read about these fellows carries the subtext that these guys emit a really skeezy vibe. Throwing things against a wall to see what sticks with over 700K of taxpayer money? What a great business plan.
NOTE TO PROMOTERS: If you present yourself in such a way that you inspire a local columnist to "brainstorm" with you via his column, and he comes up with ideas better than yours, you're in deep crap.

Well I am in my late twenties and my mom is in her fifties. We read this article together and she told me that Leon Russel was in her time. If you only want people to come to the Vault that are in their late fifties then by all means go ahead and hire a washed out talent buyer.

This article is super biased. Do your research first and you would realize that the columnists facts are completely inaccurate!

Well, if you take a walk around Belmont Shore, you're going to see many more people your mom's age, than your age.
The most people in Long Beach, with money, are going to be the boomer set. Your demographic is not so relevant, and will get less so as boomers continue to age.
Also, people who actually know music, know Leon Russell, even in their twenties. Since your music tastes are most likely informed by Itunes "free MP3 of the week," and your mom, again, I wouldn't expect you to have anything to share that's relevant, or insightful.
So far, I've been right.

Leon Russell who????? I just took a poll at my business to see if anybody knew who this guy was. 7 out of 30 of my staff knew him. I live in Belmont Heights and am in my early 30's and frequent 2nd street very often with friends and my family. The age group down there is well mixed and I would say more predominantly with 30's to mid 50's. Making money has NO issue as to who will be attending a concert. You find a performer who is popular and has a good fan base and hopefully it will sell out the venue. It would be great if the new owners and management will be able to accomplish this. Personally I have never been a fan of the Vault 350 due to the crime it brought, but hopefully it will prevail to become a great venue. This will be my only comment for I am sure you will be replay with some smart ass remark.

I hate to think of the state of "your business" is when you stop a staff of allegedly 30, from doing, apparently, their JOB, to answer your quickie quizzes in your quest to one-up some stranger on the internet.
Matter of fact, since you've given such a wonderful demonstration of your instability here, I'm thinking that carrying on any rational dialog with you would be about as satisfying as working for you.
Most residents of Belmont shore are middle-aged. It doesn't matter what you think. Most who aren't ignorant about music in general, or blues in particular, would know who Leon Russell is.
Now, I'll let you go back to annoying the people whose job description apparently includes pacifying a loudmouth idiot. You must be hell on company Kareoke night.

Good point, I'd rather knock off a piece of those drunk coeds doing the technicolor dream on the sidewalk.
