While there are some similarities, I think the differences outweigh them by too much to call this a "rip off." Mayer likes to pay homage to and has covered songs of his biggest musical influences (Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn). Perhaps you have found another of his inspirations. I did think it was an interesting comparison though.

Mayer ripped off both of these Mayfield songs to come up with "Waiting on the World to Change". Bullshit http://www.youtube.com/watch...
