The scene in Saving Private Ryan where Private Mellish is killed by a German soldier reminds me of a scene from another war movie from the late 70's or early 80's. Actually, I don't know if that's when the movie was filmed, but I remember watching it about that time when I was a kid. I've been searching and searching and it's driving me nuts. I can't find any reference to a similar scene in another movie.

The scene I remember as a kid involved two soldiers (an American and I think a German) fighting one-on-one in an attic room. The German slowly gains the upper hand. The American pulls out a knife, but the German is too strong, and pushes the knife backwards, pointing the blade towards the American's chest. The American starts to beg. The German slowly pushes the knife into the American's chest, whispering "shhhh."

If you don't know the scene from Saving Private Ryan that I'm referring to, here's a link to it on YouTube

When I saw the scene in Saving Private Ryan, it was like deja vu. Does anyone know that older movie?

Thanks.
