Academy Snubs Eastwood Over Politics

Full story: www.newsmax.com

There were plenty of snubs in this year’s Oscar nominations. Still, the Academy reserved its coldest shoulder for Clint Eastwood and his latest film, “Gran Torino.”

The piece suggests that the fact that Eastwood has never won a best actor Oscar was because of a plot against him. I would like to remind the writer that throughout most of his career Clint Eastwood's acting skills were regarded as limited to say the least. I personally think he has given a few good performances, including the one in Gran Torino. But his not winning a best actor Oscar should come as no surprise.
The writer also omits one important element in Gran Torino, that getting to know someone up close can defeat bigotry. If not for this thematic point, Eastwood's character might have been judged one of the most obnoxious in screen history.
If Eastwood's politics played a part in his being ignored at Oscar time, that would be unfortunate. But the Academy knew his politics when he won for best director, so I question the theory.

His director awards were for movies that fit into their liberal philosophies - part of his doing "pennance".

There has been a large amount of evidence that politics play a large part in Hollywood regarding a person's success.

So, we're going to use politics as an excuse now everytime we don't win a prize? I saw the film, it's very good, butthat doesn't mean he should win Best Actor.

It makes your fellow liberals look shallow and hateful, doesn't it? Gotta tell ya, most of them are!
And, just because YOU don't buy into the article, Larry, doesn't make it untrue ...

I'm sure you believe Tina Fey won the entertainer of the year award on talent, too, huh?

Clint is an intelligent guy who is a true patriot.
Great actor and producer. Intelligent people make great actors...People like Tina Fey imitate and degrade the profession.

The idiots and bubbleheaded broads that are slobbering all over the new PRES aren't going to be so thrilled when they can't get a job because the new adminstration has made our republic socialist. Who is going to support their efforts then? No one is going to be loaning money to make movies when the government is bailing out and creating bigger govt.
Hollywood get ready for the soup lines...you are on your way.

I don't give a crap, but I'm glad it was filmed in Detroit. Michigan is a microcosm of the country. We are all hoping that the film industry will thrive here.

It's not politics to give it to a dead guy who played a cartoon character? The oscar's are irrelevant anyway. Keep the statue, just give me the success Eastwood has had over the past 40-50 years. Few if any can equal it.

It was a good movie, but just above average. But as Clint is not known as the typical lefty dem lib whacko, it's not a stretch to imagine them not including him into their little whacko clique. Certainly somebody like Sean Penn will win, what with his awe inspiring roll of a lifetime, playing a gaay San Fagcisco politician.

Hollywood is full of self-righteous hypocrites who think that they can tell the rest of the world how to live and what to believe. The awards are just a way for them to pat themselves on the back and brag to each other about how wonderful they are.

They are a complete waste of space.

Yet, here you are! But, I must agree, the whole awards thing is a waste and I don't give a damn about who gets them. I'll judge for myself which one's I like.

Baloney, 65. Clint Eastwood has never directed a picture he didn't want to make. If you read "liberal philosophies" into any of them, maybe it's because you and Eastwood have differing points of view on some issues.
I want to make it clear that I admire Clint Eastwood's accomplishments, and I consider him one of the best American film directors. If Gran Torino were chosen among the Oscar nominees for best picture, I would have considered it well deserved. My point is that Eastwood is broadly admired in the movie industry, and there is no widespread plot against him.

No, but I'd nominate you for the clueless poster of the year award.
The problem with Tina Fey is that Sarah Palin is much funnier.

We'd have four more years of massive obstruction and recklessly subversive propaganda from the Left, with their goal of victory thru defeat...at any cost.
