Toys in the nation's attic

Full story: Chicago Tribune

I admit it: I was a little tough on the first "Night at the Museum." My son and I disagree all the time on movies, yet I suppose it took his delight in the film's simple but surefire premise to make me reconsider.

I recently saw the second "Night At The Museum" movie. In your review of the film you wrote that "The movie radically improves whenever Amy Adams pops up as aviatrix Amelia Earhart". Could that have had anything to do with her pants? With most photos of Earhart, she really doesn't look much different than Charles Lindbergh. No mistaking Amy Adams for Lucky Lindy.

One star. That's all this movie deserves. We saw it based on Michael's review, and it is terrible. The two clever touches (spoiler) are that Al Capone's gang is in black and white, and that Stiller figures out that he can jump into a hanging picture. The first clever touch is never used for anything else, and the second is quickly used and then never used again.

Other than that, the movie has much less imagination than the first version. There are no surprises in the plot, in the execution or in the characterization. Plot holes abound (where are the rest of the security guards in the Smithsonian?) and good comic actors like Robin Williams make only fleeting appearances.

Michael, you need to revisit this movie and your rating. We whispered about leaving after the first fifteen minutes, but stuck it out because we thought it surely must get better.

It didn't. It's just flat out dull and boring.
