thanks for posting this great old favourite.
This is probably Pam's best known poem but I'd suggest not her best work.(For my money "The Battery Hen")
Snobbery among illiterates of course has caused Ayres poems to seem somehow less credible than many of the "bigger names" in 20th Century British poetry but slowly - too slowly some may say - she is being recognised as a true "peoples" voice in the same way as Betjeman or McGough.
About time too. A very wry, sly wit.

Your use of forceful imagery and unrelenting attack is astonishing CG. Like a Tigress protecting her young! Never NEVER let up. I know this is as much about how life has treated you as it is about your idol. That is why I will be here to supprt you all the way.
We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism;
We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle;
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery'
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare;
We have killed our senses and called it choice;
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable;
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem;
We have abused power and called it politics;
We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition;
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression;
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
This internet thief must not win.

Oh the MB poem was crass cheap doggerell but it was written from the point of view of intimidation and, rather as a patient teacher overlooks a child's wilfull ways, we can se this through to something higher. At least a poem is indicative of a waking heart, you'll see.
Yes I would be honoured to read your verse.

Untitled.
Forever in my heart an idol is here His name is Michael he's a dear I play his CD,I kiss his picture Up on the wall,its a permanent fixture When you was down so was I To hear your bad news,I sat down and cried For you so lovely,I love you so much Who I felt and kissed you,when we touched.
But I heard the good news the other day I was so happy,hip hip hooray! So now I look forward to seeing you again But I know,I can't wait until then You bring so much pleasure to all your fans Including me,with your lovely tan.
Goodbye,I'll close now with one last kiss And I know I'll make that it won't miss Till I see you again the month of November It'll be a night to remember.
I love you always Michael.

Move them on to a better place to be in,get them to take a long hard look at their sad lives and stop writing betrayals of Michael. Moving on is what they should be doing and again the past is the past,its been and gone,he is suceeding.Life has to go on for all of us. These betrayals has to stop for good.

Wonderful Christine. All poetry written by the heart is borne from truth; it begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of right, a homesickness, a lovesickness. A poem is never finished, only abandoned.
Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood.
Now, of course, you will entice the jackals who will deride, parody and decry. That is their lot and their curse and their trap.
As the scavengers follow the feast.
Sing loud. Life pours down like silver...

and another one for my long lost departed.
As death's icy fingers,settle around his heart I now know the time has come to part And I feel so helpless As I have cried so much.and shuddered,and sighed I can still remember our first night of love And I can still taste his last sweet kiss Your the girl I love,holding me so close Now the ashes have since scattered and the last of him is gone Now please don't be sad.if my tears start to fall And do take them up there with our lord though you have gone it isn't the end I love you still and I will see you again now the painful tears still spill God takes your hand and leads you away I dry my eyes and promise I will stay I will always remember our good times Walk away with my head held high Though my heart is breaking inside.

Another poem,
As I read this board for the last 11 months I have come across some silly old frumps Opinated,slated in the worst possible form A lovely idol I love,I am torn. I never understand people like this Who constantly think they can take the piss Better than me,they also said Bored me to tears,in this so called thread It made me sleep well at night in my bed. I'm so angry,I'm so hurt for them to say,they act like burks. I hope one day.they will pay And open there mouth and they will say It wasn't us,what's the fuss I will eat my toast without the crust.

Christine. Even your most wicked detractor cannot fail to be moved by those words. Nothing I have read here prepared me for such depth of feeling. It is a passage that might be read on the worst day of any one of us. With this one piece of verse you have made good your victory (if victory be needed) It was, quite simply, beautiful.
