I belive that there is a reason why we live and breathe. God has given us life and because of the death of his Son that life is eternal. What DearthOfCouth was feeling was mere confusion. The congregation should of explained thoroughly the significance of baptism. As a Christian, we need to ask questions. God has given us wisdom and knowledge so that we would be informed Christians.

DearthOfCouth, When I was baptised, I too felt nothing. The Bible does not say that you will feel a sense of something..Everyone has different experiences. But when you give your life to Christ the Bible says "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new"(2 Cor 5:17). That means our former lifes change, but we have to do the changing and believe that God will give us strength to change our old ways..The Things that i use to do before Christ ( cursing, drinking, fornication, ect) I do no more because I am in Christ and I know who Chist is in my life.

Church testifying was a Bible study, where folks come to learn about the Lord and it should have been used as an opportunity to express what you were feeling.

See, God has a plan for each and everyone of us and the worst thing to do is to forfeit that which God has layed out for us....

I know where you are heading to.
It's not because it SOUNDS more sexy to think there is a purpose or that it is sad that there is none that you should believe there is one.
You should only 'believe' there is one if it is proven. I put the quotes because if it were proven then it'd no longer be blind belief but fact, which now it is clearly not.

Anyway, when you die your organic matter dissolves into more simple compounds and ultimately to methane and CO2. End of the story. You don't go to special places like 'heaven' or 'hell'

Okay so you believe you become worm food - I can live with that. Now please tell me what motivates you through each day.

Orlando Freethinker..I am so sorry that you feel the way you do.. To think that the belief in God, your creator, is mindless obedience (now that's Ludicrous). DOC came to a conclusion that Christianity was not what he wanted through an experience that most christians go through. But did he seek God in this matter? It just seems as though he allowed his emotions to rule him..

God created Adam and Eve from the dirt of the earth and Yes our flesh will deteriorate when we die, But our souls will ascend to heaven and that is were we will have eternal life..

There are myriad motivations. Perhaps you have read Maslow? There is far more to the human experience than atoning for sin that hasn't even occured.

What motivates the squirrel? What motivates the humpback whale?

Why, if they provide no useful service to mankind, do we have a vast array of deep sea creatures who never see the light of day?

And the poor pig - what motivates his existence? To become the finest sausage? The best cutlet? Perhaps you know about the scene from the Resturant at the End of the Universe?

And why would a civilization write the Epic of Gilgamesh before the hebrews set down the Story of Genesis? Surely god knew that the Gilgamesh story was nothing more than false idolotry?

Personally, I am motivated every day to research the interaction of dissolved gas molecules in hyperbaric situations with cellular functions. I am also motivated to engage in specialty woodwork - to create both artistic and useful items for my family and friends.

I am also motivated by a sense of duty to our environment. Our atheist/freethinker group gathers regularly to clean up a public lakefront.

I am further motivated to protect and defend our constitution. Accordingly, this means a committment to gather a wide variety of information from international political relations to healthcare to energy.

So, in a quick nutshell - I have a fulfilling and interesting day - every day.

My immortality will be guaranteed by those who are left after I die. As an educator, I have touched thousands - and they will represent a small part of me forever. My sons and grandchildren will remember me as someone who took tangible action for humanity.

Christianity has no claim to the only morality. It is farsical to presume as much.

I already stated in this thread why I no longer believe in the pagan god of christianity. Go back and read through all of the posts from the beginning and you will find my post.

So what if the bible says something. My "bible" says that the Norse gods and goddesses exist. If you are going to go on the argument that because it is in a book it is true than my religion is also true. There is NOTHING that makes the bible any more ture or accurate than any other religious book in existence.

Force feeding a child's impressionable mind with hard core christian beliefs differs little from the early education the children of KKK families receive.
