LB museum throws a far-out party

Full story: Long Beach Press-Telegram

25 Long Beach Museum of Art 60th Anniversary Bash. Tie-dye, peace symbols, psychedelic colors, flowers, wild prints, short skirts, go-go boots, long, straight or curly-curly hair-dos, blue eye-shadow, false eyelashes - the party had it all.

Actually, this was the delayed celebration of Long Beach TAXPAYERS picking up the $3 million tab for the wealthy and well connected. The LB museum couldn't pay its $3 million bond last year and us, less wealthy TAXPAYERS were forced to finance past present and future parties for these snobs. And to make matters worse, immediately after defalting on their $3 million bond, our city Council voted this past year to give the LB museum another $300,000 of TAXPAYERS money. Meanwhile, city Council is laying off Cops and Firemen left and right.

Furthermore, why didn't I and all of the other Long Beach TAXPAYERS receive an invitation to this event? After all, I am one of those Long Beach TAXPAYERS who is financing these events. The least they can do is invite me to it.

Well said PatBryant [post #1]. The cities "best and brightest" approved the contract that left a legal loop hole as wide as a mack truck for the "care takers" of Long Beach's so called "art collection" to figure out they were not legally obligated to pay. Their position... "s c r e w the taxpayers of Long Beach."

Who was fired for this? Nobody. And the sham of a council continues to throw money at this misguided and mismanaged entity. These are the same people who have lost "valuable art works" belonging to the city according to the cities auditor.

The same situation is going on with the Aquarium bonds that were dumped onto the backs of taxpayers. The real slap in the face is that the Aquarium board members and management REFUSE to hold open meetings. Taxpayers have no idea what these "managers" are doing with this so called city asset. Most likely they are lining their pockets while burdening us even further with unknown debts.

Well I say Take all the city counsel members and put them into a big aquarium for public display.Decorate the place and invite all who pay taxes to see these fisheyed fools swiming around in the big tank.Use the tax money to feed them fish food and throw at party.Let all the firemen and laid off cops come and see how wasteful these snobby schumcks can be.

The Long Beach Museum of Art isn't very highly rated on Charity Navigator.

http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm...

Also could not find their financials on their website.

You know, it always worries me to donate money to a 501c3 that don't present their financials.

Then I suspect you are also worried about the DLBA, Queen Mary and Long Beach Aquarium, three other non-profits given TAXPAYER'S MONEY by our city leaders.

Personally, we only give to the Food Bank now.

We have a city that is spending our money to try and be something it isn't. If we were to talk percentages, how does our city's support of it's tourist and societal assests compare to other cities?

It's really more "wrong" when our civic leaders don't correct the pension and medical overspending for our public sector workers (primarilly safety, not the regular working staff of the city), prior to cutting bus routes, recreation and park support and other civic supports. Our safety spending is 70% of budget. LA's safety budget is 75%. Cities are neading for a meltdown.

In the meantime, voters continue to put Union Puppets into California offices.

So who is the most "wrong"? Our cities trying to support the arts or our voters who are not educated on the real econimic issues and what really needs to be done.

Stupid California voters.

If you are a Long Beach TAXPAYER, you give to more than just the food bank. City Council donates your tax money for you to the Aquarium, Queen Mary and DLBA, all non-profits sucking the life out of TAXPAYERS.

The Long Beach Mayor and City Council are all liberal democrats who suck the life out of our taxpayers. It won't go on forever. The question is how long will it go on?

In addition, why do these chumps think it is ethical and moral to get into office and then supports causes that are supported by the threats of the Safety Unions? I cannot imagine how many threats the Mayor and the City Counsel get from our safety union members.

That is why I will never run for office. I would be forced by my will to do what is right and it would get me killed by the members of our safety unions.

There are hundreds of movies made over the years about the corruption of our safety union members. Do you suppose that there is some reality to all the stories?

We probably have more criminals in our safety unions (as a percent) than we do in our society (as a percent). What does this tell you.

Also, why do you really think safety union members get such gravy retirement packages?

I have never seen a single Long Beach Police Officer or Fire Fighter at a Christian Long Beach Church once.

I've never been to Long Beach but I have been told to talk a long walk on a short dock a few times. We all know City officials get greedy when funds get divided and museums suck up those proceeds. Now what if that Museum starts burning or Vandalism attacks it.Are they going to wish those big grants went to the Fire station or the local police station. No they are going to freak out and worry if any of the art is going to be destroyed. The safety Unions have people just like any other Union. The Union people like to be well paid to provide muscle if needed.Often times Money gets grabbed up by Leaders and union politics.

Daily Horoscope for June 19

Capricorn

You're feeling slightly unconventional and you're looking for activities that will reflect your mood. You certainly won't be very keen on doing things that are drearily predictable or boring, although you'll grit your teeth and get on with them if you have no choice. But ideally you should do things on the spur of the moment, preferably in the company of people who make you feel alive and alert.
