Whether at MJ's insistence or not (most likely yes), Fox, MTV, and BET all premiered him as the "King of Pop" when Dangerous was released in 1991. That's how this all thing came about. Either way, irrelevant. Elvis's nickname was also contrived by his record company and publicists. That's how this stuff always starts. It's for publicity reasons....then it spreads and becomes normal.
