'Halloween II'

Full story: Zap2it.com

Rob Zombie 's transition from scary heavy-metal maven to slash-and-splatter movie maker is completed with " Halloween II." The director of "House of 1,000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects" is so mainstream he's a sequel sell-out now.

Its about making a quick buck, not making movies that people will remember or quote lines from & not I don't got around saying, "I've had enough of these snakes on this blankity blank plane".

The obsession with opening weekend actually makes complete sense when you have given up on making good films.

Of course, when you do that, your market shrinks, as evidenced by the red ink pouring out of movie companies and dismal DVD sales (why are they dismal? Because once you've fooled people to pay to see a bad movie in the theater, they won't pay to see it again!)

Great movies that you watch again and again is what the film business is based on. That the studios can't seem to make decent movies (perhaps because the people in charge mistake David Koepp for a writer and McG for a director...) is slowly killing what was once the pride of America.

Dear goddess, what the hell has happened to Zap2It? It's gone from being a must-stop in my daily internet life to checking the bottom of my shoes to see what I just stepped in. Thank heavens Topix is still around, but I don't know that I'll be visiting Zap2It for much longer. Ye cats, what a disgrace.

No, this has nothing to do with Halloween 2, but eh.

Do elaborate as I am baffled why Zap2It apparently dropped Topix for its poorly designed own boards...

Saw Halloween II in theaters, and I must say I was highly disappointed. You can tell by my profile that I am a bit of a Halloween buff considering I work for a Halloween Costume Website. The first of these retellings was excellent. It added new depth to characters that were lacking in portrayal and took new turns into unexplored territories of the franchise. This newest installment did nothing of the sort.
I felt the original gave the appearance that the film was set in the 70s and then perhaps the 80s, however in this they have cell phones, make references to Fergie, there are new cars, etc. Also, they give no explanation as to how Michael miraculously survives multiple .357 (a gun designed to destroy tissue and organs) gunshot wounds.
Also, it's indicated that Michael was only grazed by the round Laurie fired into his face at point blank range. However, there is quite a lot of arterial spray for a simple graze. Not to mention, even though Michael is supposed to be this behemoth monster, the pain would be so immeasurable that he would not have made it ten feet. Then of course, there was the portrayal of Michael. After his mother died he never speaks in the slightest. He takes several extremely damaging blows and doesn't so much as whimper. I would have no problem with this but for the most part when he kills someone he grunts like a caveman, something he did not do in the first. I understand that I am referencing the first installment of the retelling quite a bit, but I feel that if you're going to make a sequel that follows nearly directly after the first, then you should at least stick to your character designs and plot concepts. Now, for the final nail in this coffin, Sherri Moon Zombie appears quite a bit in the movie as a ghost. I don't really consider this a spoiler, so I didn't mark it as such. The real reason she is in the movie, is because she loves attention and I don't think Rob zombie could deal with the fact of making a movie that didn't involve his wife in some way. Her ghostly appearances would have been freaky and weird, if she wasn't in every other scene, looking ridiculous and rattling off her dialog in the poorest manner.
Also, why is the child version of Michael a ghost with his mother? Last I checked he wasn't dead, he just grew up. I would accept that when Michael put on the mask it represented a fracture in his psyche, but the boy version of Michael is wearing a mask as well. So if Zombie was trying to achieve that point, he simply made it redundant.
I only give this movie a 2/5 because the gore was quite good. But if you're looking for something more than that, or perhaps you hope that this movie will broaden the characters more-so than the first, I suggest you look elsewhere. Reluctantly 2/5.(Also, fun fact, a third is already slated and is going to be in 3D. The best part: Rob Zombie isn't directing it.)

I'm quite annoyed at the fact zap2it is remaining deaf to our pleas and not improving its own board (if it must have the board on its own site).

Did you try e-mailing them?:)

The review says he don't want to be original, yet he took the Holloween 2 into another direction. When remaking movie you are already in a catch 22, going in you already know that.

Zombies needs to put down the crack pipe. The movie was as bad as it gets. And if he was going for a B,C,OR D movie he shoulsd have packaged as such.

What's really bad is that the producers of modern day crapper flicks actually know they suck. All they are striving for is profit. They know that curiosity will get the best of many of the skeptics. Why? Because most of this generation consists of weak-minded idiots that can help it. Things are not the way they used to be. All the work and talent that went into creating the classic films are seeing their name get raped in favor of ripping off the consumer.

Rob Zombie recreating Halloween movies? Who comes up with these ideas? You cannot recreate something thats already near perfect. I am more than satisfied to watch Carpenter's 1978 Halloween after all these years. Its just as spooky and enjoyable. I dont need some cookie cutter gore flick of the new millenium to satisfy me. Nowadays its all about how much they can traumatize you. We ultimately end up with millions of moviegoers living with Post Traumatic Stress and dont even know it. There should be a legal limit on "scare" in a movie. Flicks like Hostel are exactly what used to be banned. And with good reason. "Faces of Death" was pushing the envelope back then. And much of it turned out to be faked.

I personally keep an extensive collection of ALL movies made before 1990. My kids never got exposed to the garbage that many do these days. And they see the ill effects it has had on their classmates at school. People ask me how my kids seem so different than the rest. I tell them about the dangerous of mainstream conformity and how it pretty much allows society to determine how screwed up your kids turn out.

I would personally love to kick the asses of parents who expose their kids to modern day horror films. They should be put away for life.

Certainly, the con job pulled by Paramount with Paramormal Activity (or whatever the title of that "movie" is) seems to indicate that at this point, some studios are all about fooling the public for a week or two, not creating an enduring work of art that will keep on bringing in revenue in the future.
