I remember me & my friends trying to get in to be extras for the Hairspray movie-we didn't get in but it still one of my favorite memories. My favorite rides were The Iceberg,(then I think it changed to the Volcano?) journey to the center of the eart-great for makeout sessions!, and the whale boats! I wish I could buy one of them now. I remember feeding the seals too-they always were just kinda laying there and I was always afraid they were dead. And the string bracelets-thanks string girl!

Thanks for that link-pretty cool. I do not remember the Wacky Shack but I did love the Gold Mine. The old yellow roller coaster was my first coaster ever. Darn thing felt like it was going to fall apart-it just added to the excitement! I remember thinking it was the biggest thing ever too when I was little. |

Golly !! All you folks bring back very vivid memories of Dorney Park. I remember 98% of the things you all mentioned. As a kid, I always looked forward to our Sunday school picnic in the Orange grove. Several of the groves were named after colors but the Orange Grove is the only one that we used for many years. I looked forward to that fun day at the park but today, it is entirely too big and too expensive.

Ok I'm a little bit younger than most of you guys but I have my favorite memories. First off I loved Hercules, I don't care how much it threw me around. I thought I was going to fall out and i loved every minute of it. As well as the log flume ride. I also love the whip! I know its wayyy olf but its still way awesome. Also I remember before camp snoopy there was Bearnstein Bear Country! I do still go to Dorney because I'm quite the thrill seeker, but it's nothing like it used to be. I can't even imagine how much fun it probably was many years ago! Too bad they still don't have dancing! I would love that!

Did anyone else think this story ended abruptly?

I used to always stand up and pee off Journey to the Center of the Earth. I got to be on the ride and not waste time in the bathroom.

one of my fathers friends bought a couple of those whale boats and uses them at a small lake in the poconos for fishing

True, times change. But with the change came Steel Force... that coaster is just freakin' awesome, and about as scared as I care to be! Talked my youngest one into getting on it with me a couple of years ago - making memories! She giggles though and challenges me to get on the Mouse Trap - which I will not do! Feels like the darned thing is gonna come flying off the track! |
The writer must have been one of the 70 that just got laid off. He was almost done the story, then was sacked. |

Does anyone remember WILLOW PARK? It was on Butztown Rd. I believe.
Anywhere I can see pics of it? I was so young but it was another place we'd go to as a family on a Sunday outing with grandparents. |

How about the fireworks? Holiday weekends, Dorney offered free fireworks to thier patrons and also anybody in the area. I remember going into the 4th turn and seeing the fireworks between the bleachers and not have to worry about dodging another competitor this time. I raced at the speedway and enjoyed it very much. To bad for the kids today they won't have the same oppertunity as I did. I had lots of fun and met alot of good friends. and like reading all about it.

If you would ever consider giving the place a second chance, try going during the week if you have a day off... there is much less shenanigans going on, the lines are also much smaller. I have almost always lived 10 minutes from the park and had a season ticket for as long as i can remember, the weekdays are the way to go. I would never set foot in that place on a Saturday, that's when you get exactly what you describe. |

I hope everyone on here with fond memories of the good old days at Dorney (before one admission price)knows about Knoebels, because that's still a pretty decent place to take your grandkids.

That was the Wacky Shack. When it burned I was devastated. |
