A Tribute to Alan Ladd

Full story: Classic Movies

A skinny, undernourished kid whose nickname was "Tiny," Alan Ladd was probably one of the most unlikely movie stars in Hollywood.

Head 'n' Shoulders....
He was a legend in his lifetime
On everybodys lips
The 30s, 40s, 5os,
shoud've been his ego trips
But a shy tho' willing actor
dedicated to his art
was dynamic Alan Ladd
who fitted every part
With his quiet depth of feeling
he brought the screen alive
With a hungry kind of talent
from a childhood he'd survived
He'd searched for fame and fortune
when a dime was hard to earn
In between his strife and troubles
he had the urge to learn
So he overcome the obstacles
his early life had brought
With a strength and perseverence
he found the fame he sought
He was everybody's hero
and for over twenty years
He towered head 'n' shoulders
over those he called his peers
On and off the silver screen
his integrity was known
His honesty came shining through
wherever he was shown
Tho' his final scenes are over
Now he's left his many fans
He will always be remembered
for his roles in filmland
From ""The Glass Key""
to ""This Gun For Hire""
to ""Two Years Before The Mast""
came ""The Blue Dahlia"
and ""Whispering Smith""
The genre of the past...
... to be continued

continuation... Head and Shoulders:-

Botany Bay - Boy on a Dolphin - Hell below Zero
Chicago Deadline Captain Carey the to Santiago
The Big Land - The Deep Six - Thunder in the East The Black Knight - Drumbeat, the movies never ceased
Sadly his last was The Carpetbaggers
released in '64
His role was of Nevada Smith
A part so strong and sure
He then received strong accolades
But they sadly came too late
For Mr Ladd's time had sadly come
as he kept is date with fate
His fruitful time that he had spent
on his many film parts
Brought forth a world-wide fan club
as he lived in many hearts
From his early life in Arkansas
to the heights of Hollywood
He lived his life on and off the screen
as everybody should

He left the world a hero
as he left his gentle mark
Mr Alan Wallbridge Ladd
"A true gentleman of his art"

Hello Alan Ladd Fans.I am trying to remember an Alan Ladd film, that I saw in 1947 at the New Metropol Victoria London. Could it have been The Blue Dahlia? Would that have been the only Alan Ladd release that year? Has anyone any memories. Many thanks if you can help.

NO, There were 2 other movies of his that came out in 1947. First, the movie "Calcutta" with Alan Ladd and Gail Russell, then came "Wild Harvest" with Alan Ladd, Robert Preston, Lloyd Nolan, and Gail Russell.

I haven't seen it for years but I think Alan Ladd's female co-star in Wild Harvest was Dorothy Lamour, not Gail Russell.
