John 17:6
“I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world." This problem has been going on for a long time. "Yahweh to go from the Mass" http://www.cathnews.com/article.aspx... |

It's not a matter of "name dropping."
It's about establishing a relationship. Or trying to prevent it. |

Did you know that I have heard just about every excuse that is given concerning this? |
|

I cannot say I have heard every excuse there is concerning this,
because I am not at the end yet. |

If you knew that in heaven they mock souls like you that do this.

1 CORINTHIANS 7:8 Now to the unmarried and to widows, I say: it is a good thing for them to remain as they are, as I do, but if they cannot exercise self-control they should marry, for it is better to marry than to be on fire. |

Forgot 1 CORINTHIANS 7:33But a married man is anxious about the things of the world, how he may please his wife, 34and he is divided. An unmarried woman or a virgin is anxious about the things of the Lord, so that she may be holy in both body and spirit. A married woman, on the other hand, is anxious about the things of the world, how she may please her husband. 35 I am telling you this for your own benefit, not to impose a restraint upon you, but for the sake of propriety and adherence to the Lord without distraction. |
|
It is one thing to choose to be unmarried and forbidden.
Paul was talking to all males, especially from those who had been divorced from pagan wives. And don't forget Matt 23:9 "Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven." (especially those who wear RED SHOES) |

BTW- There were no priests, popes, pastors or reverends in the early church - only elders.

presbiter translates to priest |
Against my better judgement, I took at look at you "very popular site". Noted this "You are a Christian if you: have read the gospel (the new testament of the bible), understood it.........." How do you know if you've understood it correctly? |
|
Maybe why that's why they call it the "amplified" Bible. Yon "amped it up". |
|
|
Many Bibles have running commentaries on things that need explanation. Indeed
Nehemiah 8:8 "They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people understood what was being read." |

My point being that if taken literally, you should call NO man father. Not even the guy who contributed to your biological makeup. You should also call no man master and the word doctor is derived from master. So don't go calling anyone Daddy or Doctor. |
|
Yes, people tend to take things literally when that's not the intent of what was said. They are known as idioms. eg . "What's up doc?" That doesn't mean boat in sky. All languages have these. And Hebrew has a lot of them.
