Debate: Was the Apollo moon landing real or a hoax?

Full story: Helium

That's one small step for... man, it's hot under these studio lights! Do you think I could get out of this suit for a while and carry on later with this one giant leap for mankind? Only a kook could claim the Apollo landings were a hoax. Although we have the technology to where you might be able to build a believable hoax, the technology of those days was not up to the task. via Helium

i think that we did walk on the moon, if we didnt walk on the moon, it would probably bring disgrace to america that we had to make up the whole thing and millions of people thought that we DID walk on the moon...so did we walk on the moon or not??

If you go on the Hubble website, you can see the lower half of the lunar lander still on the moon. Thats pretty good proof.

im undecided because all the pictures we took up on the "moon" have two different light captures. If we did go to the moon we would only have one light capture and that would be the sun. so why does all the pictures have two shadows in different directions??? if we didnt go to the moon then russia would be able to tell because they could track apollo. They would be able to see that we didnt go to the moon so they would of sent their rocket up to space to beat us

I think it was fake because when you look at the picture the flag is flapping about but theres no air.So I think that speaks for itself.

Abbie, you really need to get your facts straight. There is documented proof that the reason the flags appear to "flap" is because they were not only mounted vertically to the pole but to a horizontal rod which wasnt completely extended giving it the appearance of waving

The moon landing was probably a hoax. There are major technological problems that haven't been sorted out.The risks would have been too high.

You poor sob, the software used for Hubble viewing has incorporated features that specifically ADD the supposed image of the lower part of the lander when you view that specific position of the moon... in order to fool simple-minded people like you who think they are "very clever" but using this method using the Hubble telescope... And who controls and pays for the Hubble telescope and everything that's linked to it? Huh? Do you have any idea, my simpleton friend???

The flag is hanging in that position because the moon's gravity is 1/6 that of the earth. There is no wind effect in those photos. There is no way a hoax of that magnitude could be covered up by that many people for so many years.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The flag flaps on the Moon and keeps flapping, because it was hanging on a horizontal pole, and deliberately slightly folded by the astronauts, to look similar to a flag flown in an Earth environment. When the astronauts drove the flags into the lunar regolith (it is very difficult to do this), the material in the flag swung on the horizontal pole and kept swinging for a long time, because there was little gravity to stop it doing so. Gravitional field strength on the Moon is about one sixth of the Earth's, and you could run a bath of water, for example. There is also a very thin atmosphere.

p.s. Don't underestimate the Moon's gravity - I've seen a prototype Moon base; it has stairs, and a sink for washing. If you spilt some water on the space station, however, or the space shuttle, a spherical blob of water would form. Astronaut Charlie Duke fell over on the Moon and was picked up by John Young. By the way, the Moon is leaving the Earth's orbit - its average distance from the Earth has increased by about a metre during the last 30 years.- How do we know this? BECAUSE A MIRROR PLACED ON THE MOON BY ARMSTRONG AND ALDRIN reflects a laser beam back to Earth and from the round trip time, the ditance is calculated. Also, Moon hoax morons please note: THE RUSSIANS TRACKED THE APOLLO SPACECRAFT ALL THE WAY TO THE MOON AND BACK - AS DID THE JODRELL BANK OBSERVATORY IN ENGLAND.

I agree with actor Tom Hanks that the people who deny the Apollo landings took place are the same sort of people who deny the Holocaust.

some thing not often talked about...the computers we had at that time had a math problem that would have caused us to miss the moon by thousands of miles..all X process had this miscalculation problem..which intel fixed with the pentum class prossers..i remember watching the landing on t.v....my dad and most all the adults in my life at the time claimed it was just a money racket...tax payer money into private hands...just like most science is today..

i agree even today with our equ...it would not be easy..hell the space shutall blowed up...we got a space station..just a litte bit higher than a plane flys..if we could land on the moon...would it not make sense to put the station there..at least before we walked on the moon ..3 years i belive,,when we sent the rocket up...they admitted that the rocket missed by over 200.000 thousand miles..then 3 year latter we walked on the moon.useing the same computer data..that was proved wrong...by better computers..that found the mistake in older computers...what the hell..certain men made millions off the tax payer sucker..

p.s. Re hoax cranks: there is actually one nut site I have seen where someone is seriously claiming that aliens deliberately broke Jim Lovell's Apollo 13 space ship to stop him detonating a nuclear device on the Moon, where they live of course. False: no aliens live on the Moon; - but True: life WAS found on the Moon during Apollo 12 (bacteria of human origin was found to have survived in the camera of Lunar Surveyor 3, retrieved by Conrad and Bean); True: Jim Lovell WAS going to blow up a nuclear device on the Moon (to measure seismic waves after the blast) - the plutonium from that device is now at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, having been returned in the Apollo 13 lunar module Aquarius, parts of which survived reentry after undocking from the Odyssey command module. I am so sick of Moon hoax cranks - they are all a shower of morons.

sorry to say but a large amount of the age group of men who stoped the holocaust...thought that americans who belived man walked on the moon..was about as smart as the people who died in the holocaust..rember thousands of people lived,,,most of them were smart enough not to be lead to there death..by a goverment..

You don't need computers to calculate vectors for spaceflight. We have the work of Descartes, Kepler and Newton, plus the slide rule. NB Apollo 13 conducted significant course correction burns for reentry without computers at all.

The average orbital distance from the Earth to the ISS is about 390 km, less during a Shuttle mission when the Shuttle is required to be docked to the Station. You try flying a plane at that height and see what happens (I really hope you do try this). The average distance to the Moon is over 10 times that to the Station.

As for "3 years i belive,,when we sent the rocket up...they admitted that the rocket missed by over 200.000 thousand miles"

- rubbish. The Russians and the Americans had already successfully landed unmanned spacecraft on the Moon.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Gemini

You're in a very erratic mood today, making you restless, edgy and nervy. It may be almost impossible to settle to anything for long, because, as Mercury slows, you soon lose interest. If life becomes boring you'll want to liven it up in some way and it's likely you'll choose the most disruptive and controversial option you can think of, even though you know this will cause trouble.
