I was excited that A Prairie Home Companion decided to come to Las Cruces, but I was disappointed with their decisions for musical guests. With so much local talent, they had Joe Ely...a singer/songwriter from Austin TX, Chris Thile, a mandolinist from NYC, and a singing duo consisting of a couple of sisters from Albuquerque. It would have been great to see the PHC stage flooded with local artists like Nosotros, or the ubiquitous Steve Smith, who can hold his own with any national mandolin act. If an Austin act was desired, they could have booked Eric Hisaw, a singer songwriter in Austin who grew up in Las Cruces. Although these performers aren't as well known as Ely, PHC has always showcased local flavor in it's musical segments, perhaps if they come back someday they will.

Good point, but it given how superb the whole performance was, it becomes minor. Granted, they threw the net wide--pulling in references about Roswell, Santa Fe, Albuquerque--but that's probably not too bad, given that Las Cruces isn't big enough or known enough for them to focus exclusively on us. Glad they were here; hope they come back. Than you KRWG.

Yawn.....

It was an excellent show! I have no qualms with parts of the show highlighting different parts of the state and El Paso. The musical performances were very good and it was great seeing Chris Thile live. My only complaint is the horrible seating. Las Cruces needs a better venue for seeing performing arts. Sitting on rock hard seats is pure torture. I wouldn't endure it for many shows.

This last guy is off on some other planet. Perhaps he needs to live closer to Roswell; they can come and take him back.

To Paul Weinbaum-
Dude, get over yourself. |

I agree with APHC fan. The seats at Pan Am were horrible! The seats were tiny and cramped together. Even the skinny people were complaining.
Some people moved to the bleachers or left the show at intermission. We were packed in tight like cattle in a train stock-car. Remember people, this is what NMSU admin. thinks of you: meat. |

Well, gosh, I had a great time. I'm sorry a few of these people were miserable. Most of us laughed and clapped along. The show was great and the humor was wonderful. I had no idea Keillor did the monologue sans notes. I think most of the people had a marvelous time and thanks to those who arranged to have PHC come to Las Cruces.

KRWG Rocks!!! Thanks for bringing this show to Las Cruces!

Does anyone know the name of the "singing duo consisting of a couple of sisters from Albuquerque?" I thought that they were amazing, and I wanted to know more about them.
Thanks! |

Reporters don't write the headlines, they write the copy. |
They are Sorella, I loved them. I've been looking all over for their music but can't find it anywhere. |
What was that song that was played about half way through the show, by a male vocalist, after the skit about his adventures with the 2 girls and his father's car? I assume that was Joe Ely, is that correct? Do you know the name of the song? Thanks
That's because you're spelling it wrong, Genius. Try "Sorela." Google it. |
Why don't titles that have Mexican illegal aliens ever have "invade" in them? They save the word "invade" to be used with American cultural programs like APHC, "invading chile country". What a bunch of crap.
Then the Copy Editor should put their name on it, if it's true for this one. |
Paul, I didn't write the headline. Feel free to write a letter to the editor if you feel the topic deserves further discussion.
Are they trying to spell Sorela? You spell it like this S-n-o-o-p D-o-g-g! Or another way to spell it would be 5-0 (Space) C-e-n-t!

Tuly a great show. My Great Grandfather, Bill Sanders, told stories of Billy the Kid living in northern New Mexico where he was known as William Bonney. William Bonney exchanged letters with a friend of Bill's. It was GREAT to hear that historical note captured in Garrison's song about "Billy the Kid always being good to him". And who has not lost a house cat to couyotes out here? A great show. We enjoyed it immensely. Winston and Jackie Lewis. http://www.thegeorgewalkerhouse.com
