I am afraid attending the performance on 17 July simply confirmed what the academics labour in the programme book to disprove - substantial spoken dialogue (especially 18th century pastiche of Shakespeare) does not work in an 'opera' despite brilliant musicianship and imaginative stagecraft. Much of the audience was bored as the muted reaction showed. Give this one a miss and go to a real opera.
