The belt should be able to come off. You may need to manually squeeze the clutch plate (rear pulley) to remove and to replace the belt. Return the the front pulley and spindle spacer. Tighten the nut back on to 40 foot-lbs. Re-start the scooter prior to placing the cover back on to ensure the belt is mounted correctly. Regards

KokomoJoe wrote: Other than restrictions. Increasing speed on any scooter is a matter of air - carb - exhaust - variator. Get more air to the carb, get more gas to the carb to maintain proper ratio (rejet), open exhaust to reduce back pressure on engine, and tune the variator. Heavier weights = higher top end, lighter weights = more acceleration. But you have to reach a happy medium, some scooter owners run a 50/50 variator. It takes trial & error and you will probably never get exactly what you want. Clutch springs also influence acceleration. Stronger spring requires heavier weights, lighter spring, lighter weights. An unrestricted CDI may or may not help. Some scooters reach the engine's top power band before the CDI rpm limiter kicks in. Again it's a matter of expermintation replace the ignition on the scooter or kick start it but when starting turn the kill switch on or electric star but mostrly kick start it

My chinese 50cc scooter only revs to 7000rpm...is there a mechanical governor as well as an electronic?

The CDI is the only rpm limiter

Hey George I think cleaning carb might help. I had the same problem

That is about normal for a 50cc scooter. I think mine is limited to 6800 rpm. The CDI limits the rpm for a very good reason. To keep from blowing the engine. If you want to go faster, go to heavier rollers or increase the HP, you have plenty of rpm.
