I just bought a 2008 NST scooter. I do not have alot of knowledge in mechanics, but I would like to derestrict my scooter so I can get more mph going uphill. How do I derestrict a 2008 NST scooter?

To my knowledge the new 4 stroke scooters have no restrictions. There are upgrade kits available but they are pricey and require a partial rebuild of the engine. As you put on miles, the scooter will loosen up and your uphill speed and gas mileage will improve. Most of these Chinese scoots have a 300 mile break-in, but you won't see any significant improvement until around 1000 miles. If it runs that long. If you do not have a lot of mechanical know how, better find someone who will work on it. Good luck with that!

If its a 4 stroke as mentioned- there is no real restriction. It takes some time to break in & will go faster then.W/ windshield & a good headwind- its gonna go slower as well. I got 150 mi on mine & its peppier every day!!Change your oil every 50 mi & run it!!When ya hit 4-500 mi, then can do synthetic if ya want?

Change the oil every 50 miles? Where in hell did you come up with that? That's just plain lunacy. If in doubt, scooter owners, check your operator's manual, it probably says to make first engine and transmission oil change at 300 or 600 miles. After that every 1000 miles is more than often enough.

Just bought a Scooter the dealer had marked as a Gator 50. After doing research online and not finding that brand anywhere, i came across a pic of the NST 50cc 08 model and its exactly the same...'cept for one thing. My rim color does not match the blue. Bid deal. I'm guessing the dealer gets these scoots and labels it different to make you have to come to themn for parts and such. Just wanted to ask tho... I have like 257 mi on it. When is the first scheduled maitenace for it?(mi.) and What do you do? change oil..gear oil? clean carb.? edkristiansen@yahoo.com thnx

Many Chinese scooters are clones. They just change the name and some minor cosmetics so they look a little difference. Do you have an operator's manual? All that information will be in it. "Most Chinese" scooters have a 300 mile to 600 mile break-in. About all that is necessary is to change the engine and transmission oil. The engine oil drain and refill is usually pretty much straight forward. You may have to hunt to find the transmission drain and refill. If you don't have a manual, the engine holds somewhere around a quart, but add a little and check the dipstick, then add a little more until the oil level on the dipstick is correct. Then record how much you put in for future reference. Transmissions "usually" hold around 4 oz, Again easy does it, fill it until it just starts to leak out of the fill hole. When it stops, put the fill bolt back in and that should take care of the transmission refill. What kind of oil? If you don't have a manual, better contact the seller. But again "most" use 10W30 or 10W40 syn oil for the engine and 75W90 syn gear oil for the transmission.

well the dealer said when they get them they drain the oil in it and then refill it with synthetic. also different oil weights for winter/summer temps. About the manual, lol, I have it but the chinese to eng. translation is almost histerical. On page 1 the first box says , " When driving please you keep the relaxing moon and wear comfortable clothes, obey the traffic rule and prohibit making the moon impatient." I could go on. I read more pages untill i felt my I.Q. being lowered. The maintenance manual is not as bad but there are no illustrations. Everything of course is metric. Thanks for the info....

Yes the 4 strokes are restricted. I hav a chinese 50cc scooter and it is 4 stroke. It took me a while to find out how they were restricted but i did. They hav started to restrict them electronicaly. The CDI which is more or less the brain of the scooter restricts the revs to only 4000rpm. Buy a derestricted 1 of the internet matching ur engine spec. Then you scooter will rev out to around 9000. i found 1 fort £21 an to get some1 to derestrict it for you will cost £80. This also means no more crawling up hills. There are prob other restrictions but im still gathering info. Another thing that will help is rollers. Your rollers in your centrafugal clutch are heavy so by new 1s fo around £7.99. Im for trying round 6g. This means the engine will be able to spin the your belt faster equaling faster speed. Im going to strip the carb 2 look for any washers and i hear theres a washer n you transmission that can b took out makin it faster. I need 2 look n2 it more. Hope this helps

Other than restrictions. Increasing speed on any scooter is a matter of air - carb - exhaust - variator. Get more air to the carb, get more gas to the carb to maintain proper ratio (rejet), open exhaust to reduce back pressure on engine, and tune the variator. Heavier weights = higher top end, lighter weights = more acceleration. But you have to reach a happy medium, some scooter owners run a 50/50 variator. It takes trial & error and you will probably never get exactly what you want. Clutch springs also influence acceleration. Stronger spring requires heavier weights, lighter spring, lighter weights. An unrestricted CDI may or may not help. Some scooters reach the engine's top power band before the CDI rpm limiter kicks in. Again it's a matter of expermintation

all of your advice is pretty good. I have a chinese "tank" model and have had it for three years now. It handles very well in the rain and surprisingly good in snow too. I drive mine year round { except for two days last year when the roads were just too icy. I have 17,886 miles on this bike and i love it. It has been much more reliable than most cars and you don't have to take it to a mechanic to fix it.the bike is really simple for a novice to work on.

they just dont do business like they used to. i bought a jonway scooter and thought to put a racing cdi on, no way ,be very careful, dealing with people that sell after market scooter products, wear your helmet, they will bump your head. the part did not work ,make sure you give a visual, of what the part looks like, and what you want the part to do. some of these places just try to dump there parts junk on people, you cannot call them right back,or there policy is in such fine print it takes chinese to find it. no returns on electric componants sucks. another sure way to tell if these companys are straight up, prices, if the price is lower than everyone there out to do the dirty on anyone

scooters are fun. just remember, when its to good to be true do not believe scoobeedoo. there are ac / dc , cdi make sure you know what you scooter is .once you take off the old part ,remember not to rev the motor to much going up hills/ or down hill, that resticter was protecting you engine. the other thing is racing tailpipes.more airflow to the air gas mixture will make the engine hotter, this puts wear on any engine. the way it works is the smog on these little wonders reburns cumbustion gasses, these gasses take up space in the engine cumbustion chamber, keeping the engine cool, fresh air does not mean cooler engine, it means hotter engine, these little treasures are all ready doing more than they should if you want to keep your scooter around for a while leave the emmisions alone
