Ok start with the easy stuff first,check the connector for the lights.
1 remove the under seat storage the connection is on the right hand side,if it seems ok then remove the covers of the instrument cluster ,the brake lght switches also act as a safety device when starting the engine,follow the wires,I have had the same problem,check for loose connections or insulation that has worn.
2 the starter should not turn unless the brake lever is pulled in.

hey guys, I tried to change the spark on my 2008 baotian, but failed as I didn't have the right extraction tool. After I put it back together, the engine (4 stroke) is really low on power, and makes a horrible rattling noise while the engine is running. What have I done and how can I fix it?

Charge the battery overnight using a 3/4 amp trickle-once the light turns from red to green, test with a multi meter- the voltage should read over 12v..if not the battery is bad.
If it's over 12v you're good.
The other culprit is the stator- you can use the multimeter again to test it- connect pos/neg to battery leads and run the motor up to mid level rpms- the meter should jump up to just under 13,14v..if it doesnt- the stator is bad.
It can also be the voltage regulator-that's another story- try these two first.

Ok before You take the scooter to the repair shop check the headlight bulb it should be rated at 36 watt and no more this is for a scoot with one headlight ,for a scoot with two headlights
the bulbs are usually 18w halogen (they are connected in parallel)
This is a common problem where the wrong bulb is fitted also check
the earth cable from the battery to the frame and from the frame to the engine.

Don't always trust the green light on a battery charger. A bad battery can still show charged. I found this out this past summer with my lawn tractor battery. I keep it and my scooter battery in the house during winter and usally put the charger on each about the middle of the winter to check them, and again before I put them back in use. My tractor battery showed green on the Battery Tender Jr. I put it in, it cranked twice then just clicked. Usually when you get the clicking, it is either a starter solenoid or the battery. I put the charger back on the battery, came out later and the green light was on. Tried to start the tractor - but samo samo. So I took the battery to the dealer, they checked it, and it was shot. Bought a new battery and no problems there after.
