We just bought this scooter, new from factory, for my husband to commute to work. The DMV will title it only as an ATV! Don't they know what a motorcycle is?? In Indiana, ATV's aren't street legal. Has anyone had this problem registering your scooter?

Go to a different sec of state office. I live in MI and anything greater than 50cc is considered a motorcycle....not an ATV! You can't ride it on the trails so it is not a All Terrain Vehicle. Like I said...drive it to a different office and show them personally. Around here...if you are on your way to the secretary of states office...they don't bother you if you get pulled over.

I know it's been awhile since your posting but I too just purchased a JMSTAR 150cc. and had to have it registered and title by the State of Michigan. Because the original title was out of state I just had to fill out a form stating it was a motorcycle @ 150cc and it was rated to go up to 65 mph and sign the form. They kept the original title the form I filled out and that was it. If your still having problem have someone at the DMV come out and physically look at the vehicle I.D.# tag, it states right on the tag "motorcycle". I do hope you have had this cleared up by this time.

I work at for the DMV in CA. It's not that we don't "know something" is a motorcycle, it's not like we even get to make the choice. If you can't register something as a motorcycle it's because the vehicle does not meet the requirements listed in your state's vehicle code book to be legally considered such. Do your homework before you buy something so you don't feel like an ass when you don't like the answer you receive from DMV (and subsequently, act like an ass in public because of it- yes, it makes you look like an idiot). I processed an application for a JMSTAR motor scooter today. It is a motor scooter in CA not a motorcycle, but it is registered the same way as a motor cycle. It met US safety standards, US EPA and CA emission requirements, had a VIN and ENG number, and had a certificate of origin. My customer did his homework, found out what registration requirements were, and bought a scooter that met them. We can't register most scooters in CA because they do not meet emission requirements (there will be a label on the bike that will clearly state) and any reputable dealer should be able to tell you what you have to do to register it in your particular state. I would even go so far as to get a written/signed statement by them certifying you're purchasing a new vehicle to take into your state, so if you can't register it, you can take it back to them, or at least have a good case in court against them.

All VIN numbers are set by rules. If the vin number comes in the DMV and is the set number for a scooter it is a scooter. Seems to be a problem with the VIN number on yours. Run VIN number search on Google for info.

Some small engine repair shops, lawn mower type shop may be able to get it running. The problem is no service department then no service. If you have a good small engine mechanic near you he may be able to find out what is wrong. A lot of people get caught by very low price but without a service department then things get broke and go unrepaired..

What exactly is wrong with it? If you explain your problem perhaps someone here can help you. It could be something you could fix yourself.

When I bought my scoot (150cc's), I wanted a Roketa 150. The dist. told me he can sell it to me , but I can't get it licensed in my state. He said I could get an NST instad (which was legal in my state) & give me the same price. I did it & love the thing!! The guy from Cali is rite- do your home work, or have a reputable dist. that knows the laws. He is selling these things country wide & SHOULD know if what he is selling is legal/ cert in your state! Too many fly by nite dist out there that will sell you anything & not care if you can get it licensed or not!!They got your $$ & they are gone! I was a bit pissed @ 1st, but very happy in the end.The dist was rite on from day 1, & has stood by the scoot since, sending me anything that wasn't rite as per the 1 yr warranty. Hell your lucky to even hear from them after the sale! I got an e-mail from Scooter Dynasty just today, so they havent forgotten me & DO care! I did a little homework before buying- but you never really know till its too late w/ all the bad dist out there? Look @ some of the posts here & elsewhere to see how many people got "forgotten" after the sale! I hope you got your title/ tag problem solved by now.I hate to see this crap- as it gives the "good" dist out there a bad rap.
