I just got this scooter and it was working fine for the first 2 days. now the scooter will not start. everything appears to be fine. The Carb is clear, clean and it is getting fuel. I also made sure it wasnt just flooded and it wasnt. I checked the spark plug and it is all working fine. Im not really sure what is wrong with it. I was thinking that possibly the electric choke is not working right. I just need some input from others on what the problem is. Thanks

What kind of scooter, new or used? Does it have a kick start? If so, have you tried it? Does it turn over but not start? Does it just click when you hit the starter? Is it completely dead? There can be many reasons for it not starting. Throw us some crums here, we need more information.

Thanks KokomoJoe. The scooter is brand new just shipped to me from california. it has about 5 miles on it. Its a 50cc Sunny Gas Motor Scooter. it does have a kick start which i tried but it just wont start it really sound like it wants to but wont. same with the electric start. it all is working and cranking properly. at this point I think the choke is not ingaugeing in the Carb. Do u think the electric choke is bad or any other suggestions. Thanks

Sounds electrical. Could be a coil, could be the choke. When you use the kick start, I am sure you know you still have to have the ignition on, and the proper brake handle depressed. Could also be the starter safety switch on the brake handle/cable which allows the scooter to start. Sometimes these switches go bad or come loose. Good luck.

Aye Cap'n. They are a Chinese junk clone made by Jonway. It says 50cc in Cory's 2nd post - you're slippin there, bro. The problem could also be the CDI, I have read where they are having a lot of problems with Chinese CDI's.

sorry i missed that one KOKO. So many off brand scoots out there & engine sizes! I got my scoot by looks & what reputaation I could find. 1 yr soon & I ride it EVERY day!. Has NEVER let me down!. Got a burnt tailight & it was built around IT!! Rather than dissamble the whole scoot to do 1 bulb, I think I am going to do some body/ panel mods to access the bulb & save about 3-4 hrs dissambly!! Glue vs all those little clips & screws looks much simpler? Gettin late- but I do have to say that this scoot has been every thing it was said to be & more!70+ mph, 85 mpg, Besides the crappy chinese battery that comes with- has NEVER failed me 1x!! Actually its scary how quick this thing starts & my elec choke WORKS & as said if thats true - dont F with it! The moror is GREAT!! The rest is soso? Really llousy assembly design! Great seller/ dist- honored ALL waranty so far & 2 mo left to go. Nice people too!All said for now- its bed time.CDI? dont know there? All the rubber, wires, & ties, clips ect are really crappy! It could be almost anything? The kick start on mine is totally useless. Iyt "might " start it if warmed up ? Other than than- forgetr it! Cant even get @ it!! O well - have a good nite & keep in touch on this issue! A new scoot should last past 5 mi!! Elecchoke "could" be the problem if spark & all else are in order? Will get bck on this one1 Capt D

my roommate and I purchased a Sunny brand scooter and we have had nothing but problems. We have taken it to the shop twice, and each time it stops working within a week of getting it back.. The coil is fine, the carb is clean, and the engine is not flooding, yet the scooter will never start. Any suggestions?

If that is all you have to spend, better look for a good name brand used one. You buy a new 50cc for $827, all you are doing is wasting your money. If you have read any of the threads on this forum you should have concluded by now that Chinese scooters are not a good buy.

It turned out to be a kincked hose. The hoses that supply air and fuel are very soft and collapsible. FYI: It makes a huge difference when u do the gear and oil change. The bike runs smoooooth. I think the oil that comes with is from china has chemicals in the oil to prevent corrosion. You might want to do this after 50 miles of run time.

Any suggestions? ++++++++++ Check for bent hoses, they are really cheap and soft, straighten them out, hopefully that works. Or you can use a screw driver and empty out the carburetor ( its the one with a spring wrapped around the black hose, leading to the carburetor), empty it out, there will be a lot of gas coming out for a short period, do that outside Please. When the carburetor is flushed and make sure the air intake / air filter plastic cover is off and not flooded with gas as well. It should start right up.

Remember to flip up the Kickstand, they wont start with it down (but it WILL turn over, bad idea I reckon). My daughter has one that is giving problems, starts perfectly with the kick start, but wont start at all with the electric start, it just turns over and over. Spark seems ok (maybe a bit weak). Battery was stuffed after 3 months of using the bike, and I had to replace it. They really are a piece of cheap crap

BIKE is (what we call in New Zealand) Sunny 50, made by Jonway (not sure of their model. done 3500KM Got the bike starting from the starter motor, new spark plug and valve clearances (there was none) I don't think the valves were closing properly. :-) Couple of notes for the home mechanic: IMPORTANT: do something with the front wheel disc bolts/nuts, my daughters one had ni-locks on it, one came off and the bolt jammed between the disc and the caliper (luckily she was just taking off from an intersection). I mig welded the little buggers on. but you might want to fit spring washers or something. The choke is some sort of bi-metallic thing, it gets power from two wires in, 12 Volt AC (YES AC) must get it from before the rectifier, then it gets warm and pulls the needle valve out (I think). Definitely change the spark plug, It had a Chinese A7RTC, I used a NGK CR7HS, but you could use a Champion RZ10YC.(Performs better with new spark plug)
