Hi all.
I just purchased a Jonway 250T from Mishi Motors.
It was shipped to me. Overall, the bike has been about what I expected. I can see a clear lack of quality control based on the rather poor paint job, small runs, uneven paint, scars, ect and some of the plastic components do not line up, like the handlebar cover. The windshield has some kind of speckled deformity in it and they said they would send me a new one. It came with luggage side bags and trunk, but virtually no instructions on how to assemble it, so that took a while to figure it out.
As for the bike mechanically. So far about 150 miles. It seems to idle rough and jerks when first starting off.
One concern I have is handling at speeds over 45.
When you get up to about 45, it starts to ride rough. It jars and shakes a bit. The tires were over inflated when I go it, but are OK now.
I am lucky to have a shop that actually sells Chinese bikes, Linhai, so I took it there for them to road test it. Two guys took it out and they both said the same thing.
It is "Normal" for a scooter to ride kind of rough at speeds or 45 and up. They said the wheels were probably not completely balanced but they would probably not be able to do much better.
They said the bike appeared to be fine. So my question is, is it normal to have a rough ride at speeds over 45mph?

Also,, the idle is set to around 900 rpm. The manual and info plate on the bike say it should be at about 1700 rpm. What is best?

Other than that, the bike seems fine. It starts right up and I have not had any other issues so far.

Thanks.

I had a Chinese 150cc scooter. The front end had some vibration but not until around 55 mph. Keep in mind all the weight of the scooter is in the engine and rider. There is very little weight on the front tire. Any roughness in the road or un-balance in the front wheel, any looseness in the front shocks, etc., will cause some vibration. The tires on a scooter are very small and almost impossible to balance. Check the wheel rims for any dings or dents. Get the front wheel off the ground and rotate it while looking for any warpage. Check the shocks for any looseness or play. Tighten down "all" the nuts and bolts, especially the exhaust at the manifold.

If it is a 250cc and vibrates at 45 mph, there is a problem. It should run smoothly all the way up to full throttle. I would suggest getting it checked over thoroughly. Could be a dangerous situation.

Jim,

I got the same model scooter from Mishi Powersports...the Mishi Ranger AKA Jonway YY250T. I would say if another shop says that it's normal for a rough ride over 45 mph....they are crazy. My tires came in at 80PSI and I put them back to spec. I would check your bolts and tighten them up. Idle should be around 1500-1700 rpm.

I also have the widely named jonway mp250roadster yy250t it is smooth at top speed.but i have other issues i cant find the gear oil drain or fill and where the hell do you get parts in ny for these or a fair mechanic who isnt gonna shrug and say oh im gonna have to really get in there yeah ok at 95 an hr sure where do i sign.listen i am mechanically inclined and will be able to do whatever service myself,im just totally new to these scoots and yeah they are cheap blah blah blah but if im gonna spend 8000 its gonna be on a real bike not a 250 and i love my 250 it is powerful but the battery they send is crap i had 3 sent to me and they all lasted a week before they had to be jumped everytime i shut down.so im thinking do i buy a new good battery or do ya think its a bad ground or alternator? i adjusted my idle till it sounded just right not stalling and not revving too high...if someone can help with the gear oil what weight?how much engine oil do these things take 4 stroke one cylinder so i assume a little over a qt????????and as far as the gear oil i know where the case is but how much do i replace after i drain it and when i find the fill on it?????

No.1 Chinese batteries are junk. Buy a good one. As stated in another thread, use a Deltran Battery Tender Jr to charge the battery. They take a long time but won't eat up the plates like a regular 10 amp charger.
No.2 Parts - you are on your own. If you bought it new, your distributor is supposed to help you get parts. If there is no dealer or a distributor that will get them for you, then you have to get them from China. Getting parts is the No.1 problem with Chinese scooters
No.3 The drain and fill are just bolts in the tranny. The drain should be under the front of the tranny, the fill should be on the side of the tranny 3-4 inches to the rear and 2-3 inches above the drain. The fill is usually marked in some fashion. If you still can't find them use the trial and error system. The engines usally take around a quart, just add slowly and check the dipstick frequently while filling. The trannys use around 4 ounces. When you drain the tranny, drain it into a measured glass then you will know how much to replace. Gear oil is usually 75W90 or 80W90 synthetic. Engine oil is 10W30, 20W30, 10W40 or 20W40 depending upon the Mfg spec and the temp range where you live. Break in oil is usally fossil after that use synthetic. To replace the tranny oil you are going to need something that will fit in the little hole. I use a food syringe, some just squirt the oil into the hole with the oil bottle until it begins to run out, others use a funnel with a long fill tube that will fit in the fill hole. Good luck

Explain "It won't turn on" When you turn the key on, there is no power? It won't turn over? It will turn over but not start? You need to be more specific.

Hi All,
Thanks for the info about the shaking I am getting on my Jonway 250. It is really pronounced at 45-55 MPH. I already checked everything for loose bolts and warpage, but I can't see anything obvious. I took it to a dealer who works on Chinese scooters and they said it was fine and that all scooters vibrate and shake above 45 mph.
Hmmm,, I am concerned. I don't want the front end falling apart while I am cruising down the road.
What else can I do. Other than that, the bike has been very good. Starts every time and seems fine.
Although when I changed the gear oil, I noticed that the drive belt looked like it was rubbing against the housing and when it gets warm, at slow speeds the tranny,,(vari drive), seems to jerk real bad. Is this normal?

Thanks again.

Scooters to do not shake at 45-55 mph, that is pure B.S. However, keep in mind that the front end of a scooter has very little weight or pressure on the wheel. The road condition is going to be magnified 100 times greater on a scooter than a car. Old, repaired, patched, roads, are going to get vibration but you should not get any shaking. Find a new smooth road or street and check it out. If you still have shaking, there is a problem, go to a different mechanic! You may want to check for loose handlebars, check shocks for play, bent tire rims, warped tires. The jerking in the tranny is not normal regardless of speed, acceleration, or cruising.

No one should buy a scooter online unless you really like to work on bikes and wait for parts. Do you see Vespas sold online? Honda? Why do you think that is? The only way to buy a Chinese scoot is from a good dealer who has set up the bike properly and where you can go for the frequent service you will need.

I bought a Chinese scooter from a good dealer. But the scooter was still junk. Fortunately it didn't cost me any out of pocket expenses other than gas money for 3 trips to the dealer in 6 weeeks. But - what was more important to me, was the lost riding time. Then I finally got smart and bought a Yammy.

I am considering buying a Mishi Ranger 250 but after reading some of the comments, now I am not sure.
My main reason for choosing the Mishi Ranger 250 is price. Really can't afford to spend much more.
I would be buying from a local dealer so service would be readily available.
My question to you all is: Is the Ranger 250 worth the money or is there something else out there in the $2k to $2.5k range that would be better?
I look forward to any and all advise...thank you!

Hi.
My Mishi Ranger 250,, Jonway, I bought from Mishi motors in Tx is OK, but I have had some minor issues. As stated above, It seems to shake above 45 mph. Also, it jerks bad when the bike is warm and slowing down. Now, after being stored all winter, it will not start. The good news is that Mishi Motors has been very supportive of me and just sent me a new clutch assembly. They are currently working with me on getting it started. I tend to believe it is a carb problem or choke.
It is getting fuel to the carb and turns over, but will not start.
I called them again today but have to get back with them tomorrow.
They have been veyr good to help.
On a side note. My scooter has the trunk and the saddles. They are made from rather flimsly plastic.
The instructions for installing them are poor, but I figured it out. Once I got them on, I discovered that they shake and rattle real bad at slow speeds and idle. What I did to correct this was to install flet under the trunk and along side the saddles. This took care of 95% of the rattling.

Now I also need to figure out how to hook up the running lights that come on the saddles.

My Bike has 562 miles on it. I have done three oil changes and one gear oil change.

562 miles and three oil changes? May I ask WHY? The engine and tranny oil should be changed at breakin mileage. But after that, both should be good for at least 1000 miles.

Try checking the ground wire on the starter.

Under the seat there is a wire connector that will back the wires out when pluged in. Check it.

My wife and I bought 2 YY250t Rangers from Mishi Powersports. We had hers fitted with 2 outrider wheels since she is disabled and unable to put her feet down. We have had good results with our bikes, I had a bad battery and I knwe that chinese batteries are junk so I expected that, After 150 miles I changed all fluids and added Amsoil products and a good grade of antifreeze mix to the radiator. We are looking to a ride up to New york from Texas before winter sets in. Top case abd side cases and tie down straps will be all we need other than the GPS we added to mine.

Contact your local scooter shop.
If has to be custom built the kit takes 3-9 months to arrive then there's the time for your local shop to build it.

You're looking $6000.oo + the cost of the bike.

Search for "trike conversion",
I can't remember the name of the co who builds the kits.

Be WARNED though, the crown in the road will cause you to be always struggling (steerimg to the left) to keep the thing from sliding off the road.

Lucky for me I got some stupid sucker to buy mine.
