Harley Bashing. Meh. I guess it's like playing king of the hill. Funny that it's always H-D that is the target. They must be doing something very right.
Hey that Charlie sure got hateful attitude toward one of the best tax bases in Springettesbury and the county. And he must not have class and common sense to know the workers and their product at HD are among the best in this country.

Gee, what will happen if he loses his job because of downsizing or lowering benefits. What will he do? Come on here and ask for sympathy and support from the same people he is jeaulous and revengeful to.

Maybe if the workers did not strike so much this would not have happened!

As a child my father worked at Harley when AMF owned into it (well fell into it, I should say). How they built them then is not much short of how they build them now the only thing missing is the Bomb line. One person above is looking at a way to fit the "young" crowd into buying Harley motorcycles and that may be a boardroom fact, but face to face this world it is a changin' and your company just canned a Ford Motor company mistake. Ford went around for the last 15 years and bought Jaguar, Aston Martin etc. etc. and now take a look? Take that example and tell me that the "youth" of america will be back buying stronger then ever from them or any other one for that fact. Maybe instead of patenting a sound they should patent an idea, one good way to just sink a ship that is already sinking. Good job boys, bonus day is here and only a couple of hundred are in for the ride (oppps, sorry I meant check).

Maybe when Harley gets it together with that Italian motorcycle company, I can stop down a Laugherman's and buy a part for my Moto Guzzi?

Hey lets just go streaking through the wood with our pants down so all can see our weiners. The have a making pie session so we can be happy and have monkey love with all that surround the glowing light of our inner souls. May the river run full of pizza and peppers, the door open wide to the souls.
It this world of mass confusion and everyday problems just layt down the law of the fathers and mothers of our labd of old and signs praise the the over bundle of bannas and celery that is here for each to eat. May we all laugh at the butts of all human as they ar just a gateway to the scum of the galaxy.
The flowers that bloom within us all reach deep for the rivers of gold.

Tha facts are that HD sales are down in the US, and will likely be for some time, so would you expect HD to keep paying for resources (people either union or not, and material) when its not needed? Or perhaps they should just keep cranking out the bikes, stuff them into the dealers showroom, where they can sit, until the prices have to drop 30% or more to move them. That would just be great for the 'resale values'huh?
It a whole new world economy, Bud is now a part of a Belguim company, so it good that HD can expand in Europe, not many US companies can today. It sucks to layoff people, look at GM and Ford, have the unions helps those companies or even their members? Harley has great brand history and has stayed alive not because of the workers but because of their customers. More sales = more workers, simple theory.

PUT 'CAT' AND 'HAR' IN THE SAME BAG, SHAKE EM' UP, PULL ONE OUT AND YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO TELL WHICH ONE IS WHICH. IF YOUR WORRIED ABOUT TAX BASE FOR SPRIG TWP. YOU SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE CAT PUT IT IN GEAR AND FLEW THE COOP. HARLEY'S ONLY HERE UNDER FAITH BASED TAX INCENTIVES, PAST THAT YOU'D ALL BE WORKING BACK ON THE BOMB LINE FOR GEORGE'S WAR!!

Interesting scenario - Will the union call on their brothers and sisters to boycott buying Harley products or will they call on them to buy Hogs in order to keep the plant open?
What do you think?
If there were a boycott on harley, I might be willing to buy one of the pieces of crap....

Maybe now they'll hand out gift bags with the purchase of every bike now. In it will be wine and cheese and a manual on how to read the Italian owner's manual.

There are plenty of unions in Italy.
And they "strike" at less than the drop of a hat.

<quoted text>
I know plenty about Europeans quality of life. I'm first generation American who's father's family fled Italy before the war was about to break out. My father's mother died when he was 11 years old while his father was in the U.S.A. looking for work. Word of his deceased wife took 6 months to reach him! He returned to Italy and brought his 3 young children to America which was billing itself to Europeans as having plenty of jobs and the great land of opporunity! For 6 months my paternal grandfather could not find work. When he returned to the U.S.A. with his 3 young children he stormed into the Mayor's office in a big city and pounded his fist on the Mayor's desk hollaring that he heard America was welcoming Europeans to come to America where there are plenty of jobs and golden opportunities and he had yet to find work within 6 months while his wife died in Italy at the young age of 28. The Mayor asked my grandfather to calm down and have a sit while he made a phone call. The Mayor made a phone call and ended his conversation and asked my grandfather when he could start work. My grandfather said right that minute as he had 3 young children's mouths to feed and put a roof over their head. The Mayor told him he could start work the next day building bridges! To this day one bridge still remains that my grandfather built!
Italy still has slave labor!
My father took me to Italy with his wife [my mother died when I was 18] and step son and his wife. My spouse didn't want to go. I saw more than I cared to see. Young children holding up cardboard signs reading "will work for food" dressed in shabby clothes and no shoes with uncombed hair in downtown Rome! I later was told by my brother who had visited Italy years before I did that Italians use their young children to beg for money. My father told me a story when I was child about his family living downstairs of another family and for a couple of hours every night he would hear this loud boom boom. Two weeks later his father investigated and discovered that in the apartment upstairs lived a man with his young son. The father had a dummy tied to a rope hanging from a light fixture. The father was teaching his son to be quick at pick pocketing! When my father heard the boom boom, it was the young boy jumping up and down to grab the wallet of the dummy. My father would hear the young boy cry as his father hollared at him. The father was hollaring at his son that he wasn't quick enough. This was in Naples. To this day you have to be very careful of pick pockets in Naples!
As for drinking vino with dinner. The reason for that is because the water is contaminated. If you drink it, you will get one heck of a case of Montezuma's revenge you will never forget!
I was impressed with the large size of produce in Italy. So large I've never seen anything like it before except at the York County Fair where ribbons are awarded for the largest pumpkin. In Italy lemons were the size of eggplants! Why? The use human manure as fertilizer to grow their produce. This is why upon consumption of "fresh vegetables" tourists develop constipation with severe stomach craps strong enough to make them double over.
Don't get me wrong, Italy is a beautiful place to visit as there is so much beautiful scenery to take in. Scenery most people will never see anywhere else in their life.
I know one thing is true. My brother told me that because I had never been overseas before the first thing I am going to want to do upon returning from Italy and arriving in the U.S.A. is to stoop down and kiss the ground thanking the Lord for being an American and on U.S.A. soil.
Thanks for your enlightening post.

that company is in direct competition with another motorcycle company Harley owns. Buell. I have heard harley management say on more than one occasion how well the buell sells in europe. I just hope I can trade in my buell on an mv. Maybe I can get that fat 20% discount on them as well!
I think most people understand Management answers to stockholders. With that said the All American image HD presents is fake and has been for a long time. So many parts are made overseas. A person with reasonable intelligence would see this is a trend in a majority of the manufacturing companies in the U.S. not only union companies. You can blame all the worlds problems on the union. Me, I blame them on George W but hey BAE is doing well and union by the way.
The British own BAE now.
