Truth wrote: There are already mapped out routes called Road Atlas. Most motorcyclists I knew could read a map anbd chose their own routes. An atlas simply shows where some of the roads are. It does not show the curves, grades, scenery or other things that make the roads a good motorcycle road. It doesn't even show some of the more interesting small roads. It can take weeks or months to find the good motorcycle roads in an area. A visitor wants to be able to have good rides available that they can enjoy in two or three days. Those of us who have ridden in this area for decades can direct visiting riders to the most enjoyable rides for them.

The 22nd of March was their last day,due to land no longer been leased. It was has been opened since 1982. Very popular and advertised in MC magazines. Could be possible for this area. Had tent sites and a large dining and lodge building. Just an idea. We need to get the interest and traffic up in the area so motels, restaurants, campgrounds and other establishments will want to locate in the area. It would nice if a local resident was able to establish a motorcycle friendly campground and dining/entertainment business. "Back of the Dragon" is not going to replace the Rt 16 or B. F. Buchanan Highway names. It will be an addition just like Rt 58 is now also called the "Crooked Road".

To "bone stipper"/"nite rider" (who are either the same person or share the same ip address, go figure), I don't understand what kind of "research on 16" that would show "who wheres this" because the latter makes absolutely no sense. Then you want ME to do some homework? Hmm.
Have you ever heard of Route 66? You can't "own" a state or federal highway designation, nor a proper name that is in the public domain. Remember the store at Frog Level? It bore the same name as the community.
And I can't imagine what kind of "conflict" that promoting a motorcycle route could cause, nor how that "could get someone hurt". The road is open to motorcycles now, so other than the statistical increase that comes with more traffic (on any road), which would be balanced by more riders that I believe would actually help control renegade riders, there isn't any more likelihood of either of your scenarios. Are you thinking of gang wars breaking out over who controls the road? NOW who's being stupid! Of course it's about dollar signs. How many posters on here have bemoaned the lack of jobs? When people spend money, it creates business, and money is dollar signs. That's the reason behind the whole concept, genius. Yet you agree with Goose, who "gets it". If the trail succeeds, then campgrounds, restaurants, lodging will all benefit and grow, bringing jobs.
Sometimes it is better to not respond and have others think you an idiot than to continue to do as you have and prove me correct.

The kind of folks who ride long distances to ride curvy mountain roads are very different than what you have in your imagination. Most are successful prosperous folks who happen to love to ride nice motorcycles. The bar hopping "bikers" don't go in for actual riding other than to the next bar.

The T-shirts and caps are the product of a retired veteran and his successfully employed son. It's no different than a Myrtle Beach, Bristol Raceway or Jeff Gordon T-shirt. It's to promote the road and nothing more.

That is what the real problem is on here and all around Tazewell. This area is so much like the Geico comercial where they live under a rock its pethetic. Instead of being supportive toward a new idea that might just bring some good people to our area, you want to write it off as a club. What a joke. I don't see you on here bashing the local weomes garden glub. Did you know that one of the local motorcycle clubs or gangs that they are commonly referred to is comprised of mostly police officers. One of the biggest MC or gangs in the world is the Red Knights comprised of Firefighters and as I said its worldwide. Also did you know that for several years now there has groups riding motorcycles down here on rte 16 that travel from Ohio and Canada that stay at Fincastle Motor Inn every spring, summer and fall. Bikers aren't all bad people there are more good than bad and actually I have never met a bad one. Just a lot of prejudice people that don't ride bikes. Even though I don't enjoy the 16 ride because of the shape the raods are in I'm still supportive of the idea.
