New name for Rt. 16 hopes to lure motorcycle riders

Back of the Dragon sounds dumb to me. It does not make any sense. I think Herbert West has the better name. Makes more sense to me....I agree that we will still call it 16.

So where is Back of the Dragon now? Dragon's Back is in Hong Kong and Tail of the Dragon is in NC. |

So true about the pot holes. You can't even get on interstate with out huge potholes, much less up 16. I have to say I agree with Herbert's name. It is more appropriate. I mean this is the country, we need something that sounds a least a little bit southern. Dragons have nothing to do with the south, and "Back of the dragon" just sounds rediculous. You could go with sideways serpent, or serpent slopes or Thrill Hills lol....Hey I don't claim to be the best road namer around, but something better than Back of the dragon ...please!

How about leaving it Hwy 16. Tazewell might have something to offer such as Burkes Garden ,Smyth not too much. Smyth will offer to pass an ordinance for anything that comes to mind,as long as abig city has it. We are growing just not the right way. If I was still biking I would go to Abingdon hit 19 go over to Tazewell from that direction avoid Smyth County except by Interstate.

Great positive comments! No wonder things are growing "in the wrong direction". All this wonderful energy directed at griping has to be good for the area! Keep it up - maybe we can use these pea brains to find new ways to sit on our hands and do nothing, just have mroe stuff to gripe about.(end sarcasm)

Doh ,yes we are peabrains for electing the people we have representing us. Let me rephrase that represent themselves. If you think that renaming hwy 16 to Back of Dragon is forward thinking we would be better off sitting on our hands. I think we have more important issues than trying to lure motorcycle riders to our area. Nothing against bikes or riders just Smyth County is not really that great. Alot of forward thinking has only shifted us into reverse. Used to be a great place years ago. Of course I am sure it is all for our own benifit or so we are told.

Old Man, sounds better than Back of Dragon. That would draw more motorcycle riders than previously suggested. I see printed T-shirts already.

I think it would be a clever idea to incorporate "hungry" or "mother" in the name. Old Man~it truly does have some "kiss your ass" curves on the mountain. lol. Heres a couple of my suggestions~~~

OMG THE RIDE JUST ISNT THAT GREAT.WHO IS LINING THERE POCKETS WITH THIS LAME BRAIN IDEA,CAUSE THE RIDE ISNT ALL THAT GREAT AND THERE IS WHOLE HELLVA LOT BETTER PLACES TO RIDE.
