Pirates Are Baseball's Story Of The Year

Full story: WFMZ

Clint Hurdle had lost his mind. What other explanation made sense, after the man chose the Pittsburgh Pirates when he might have been manager of the New York Mets? The Pirates? That once-proud franchise had just suffered through its 18th straight losing season, a record for professional sports teams in North America and perhaps any other continent.

Actually, true fans of Pittsburgh sports are and have always been Pirates fans. Just because they spent almost 2 decades losing, that doesn't mean that the people of Pittsburgh turned their backs. We may not buy as many tickets, but we're still behind our buccos 100%. Always have been. Any Pittsburgher WILL talk all day about baseball - even in a losing season. We might focus on the days of the Great One, but we always have talked about Pirate ball.

That's funny...I also live in the Philly area...I don't hear much talk, about the Pirates...have you ever seen how many Phillies fan, there are...even at away games...now that's what I call supporting your team...GO PHILLIES!!! The onething I have noticed about Pittsburgh fans...is that they are FAIR Weather Fans...they only support their teams, if they are doing well..no wonder you came so close to losing your Hockey team...Go Flyers as well!!!

The philadelphia market is much, much larger than the Pittsburgh market, that has to be taken into consideration also.

I didn't say there was Pirates talk in Philly... in Philly, you'll hear Philly talk, in Pittsburgh, you'll hear Pittsburgh talk. The Philadelphia tag on my post was randomly assigned - I don't live in Philly. I'm in the eastern part of the state, but grew up in Pgh. and visit often. Are you aware that they put up screens in the city for people to watch Pens games? Its because they don't have enough seats for the fans. Hockey is big in Pittsburgh, but it has always taken a back seat to baseball and football. People may call Pittsburgh and her fans many things, but fair weather is NOT one of them. People born and raised there have always loved the Pirates - even through 18 rough years.

So you don't remember when The Penguins, were almost moved to another City, because they were BANKRUPT...

That was a management problem, not a fan problem.

I remember they also had VERY low attendence...I am an AVID Hockey fan...so I watch a lot of games...btw, have you ever seen how many Philly fans show up for away games for both Hockey and Baseball...sometimes, there are more PHILLY fans...then what the home team has...PHilly fans LOVE their teams...:)

THIS is coming from a CHICAGO CUBS FAN.
First of all, your team got "screwed"
on that call!
Second of all, I and our best friends
in CHICAGO are pulling for the BUCS!
lAST, BUT NOT LEAST: I am so sick & tired
of thus CUBS TEAM this year!
THEY are last in FIELDING, Just about LAST
In PITCHING, & LAST in STOLEN BASES!
THEY do have some sticks in their lineup.
For the last few weeks, I have been pulling
for the opposition to BEAT the CUBS!
The CUBS play your team shortly & I hope
you SWEEP them away!

GOOD LUCK PIRATES!

I remember being in Pittsburgh years ago when they were losing their asses. The fans blamed it on radio announcer Milo Hamilton and had him fired. What the hell was that?

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Sagittarius

Relationships have been going through through testing times since the Solar Eclipse at last month's New Moon in Gemini on May 20. Events may force you to reevaluate the state of a partnership. You may even decide that you need to make some major adjustments if things are to carry on as you would like. During the coming fortnight leading up to the rare second New Moon in Gemini, this may feel like a crisis, but that doesn't mean you should abandon all hope or throw out the baby with the bathwater.
